Well seems like this might be a case where a good deed actually pays off. It seems in very nice condition no rust anywhere and very solid feeling and smooth action. Im excited to take it and make it go boom.
Anyone know anything about guns?

Its a 4 inch stainless steele barrel or is it nickle? Is the grip rubbery with little grippy stuff or is it solid? I think that that is a collectors addition because of the insignia on the handle. I seen one in rusty shape on sale for $700 at a gun show two weekends ago so Im going with GWN and saying you can get about a g for that thing but in a legal market you will only get about $700 yourself the guy with the FFL will get the rest

66-1 is stainless - a nice enough revolver.

I just managed to find a little bit online. Its stainless steel 4 inch barrel. The grip isnt solid it has little grippies. When I found out the gun was made late 70s I couldnt believe it. It looks really new. No rust inside or out that I can find.

Maybe if you live in a city I have no neighbours.
Have you take off the grips & lock plate?
That will tell the tale, however I suspect it will be pristine given the s/s & the overall look of the piece.
I'd say in a legal sale (the only kind I deal with) she would easily pull $600 to $700 all by herself.
Ammo dependent.

That is a good point. Standard 125g FMJ is most common but there are options - even frangibles if you can find em.

I'm a ar fan but your wrong about stopping power the 5.56 is ment to maime not kill thus tieing up resources having to gather the wounded the 7.62 is a devastating round and is really good and ripping threw anything in its path like you said

Yep, agreed. In that condition about $500 is what its worth. If it's low serial number and better condition, is there pitting in the barrel? You could probably fetch $700 in pristine condition. Stay away from gunbroker, gunsamerica is not a bad place, or if you hold off for a few months, I should have my FFL. I might buy it. That's if it's for sale...

Remember not to wear ear plugs the first time you fire it near your face. You'll also need to listen out for clicking noises right after you fire. Don't worry, you might have a slight ringing for 5 minutes, but that will go away.

You've got that backwards. 7.62x39 has better tactical penetration but 5.56 is more lethal.

Thats a myth, 5.56 was not designed to maim and tie up resources, that came as a consequence of hits at certain velocities and barrel length due to the bullets light weight and slower velocity. Also that would be against Geneva Conv rules. 5.56 was designed because 1) the majority of infantry engagements are within 100-200 yds and modern military theory favors assault style weapons(auto fire). We wanted a smaller round to enable more control over the weapon during rapid fire, a lighter weapon and to carry larger amounts of ammo. Most of modern history the favored battle round was 30-06 which required a heavy rifle and long barrel. Unless it was used with a bipod or fixed rest, a large round is virtually impossible to control during auto fire (BAR is a good example)
It is horribly expensive to adopt a new round and new arms so its a slow process. The .308 suffers from the same problem the 30-.06 does, hence its used as a specialty weapon (hence the short main battle status of the M14).
The next new round will be a 6.9mm, to eliminate the odd performance of 5.56
