how much root can I get away with chopping

I purchased these girls as newly rooted clones about a week ago. There was a small dark brown segment on one of the roots thats just getting worse. Can I cut away the whole root above that section without killing the plant? Or spray it with something? It's about 1ft tall.

It's a shame cause the new growth beneath it looks great.

You could spray some hydrogen peroxide on it, that should clean it up. I've had good results with doing that. If you use bennies, spray with hydrogen peroxide then just give it a couple days to go away and then readd bennies since the hydrogen peroxide will kill the bennies too.

It almost looks like dirt rather than root rot, but idk can't tell. I don't see cutting a middle section out without losing the bottom section as well due to them being attached.

They guy I bought them from must have sliced the clippings stem up the middle. He delivered them to me in cups of water and the little root mass was matted together with a little brown segment. I pulled it apart a few days ago and that's what you see in the pic. But ya when I pulled the strand apart it almost looked like clumps of dirt. But it's not, I'm thinking early rot from sitting in that water. I'm running h2o2 now but will likely resort to hacking that whole root off. Any other suggestions before I do would be appreciated

^^Before you start chopping roots, I would take the plant over to the sink and see if any of that dark stuff can be sprayed off.

As stated, the roots look great under the brown patch, which could have been caused by anything, like even nutes. I would leave a good thing alone, maybe add some beneficial microbes, but I wouldn't fuck with it myself.

Ya that's worth a shot. I could probably just leave it in the clone table and blast it with a spray bottle before I change out the rez.

In that case it sounds like it would be necessary to cut back to the white, just above the brown., Spray it with H2O2, and let it go. I don't think that would be bad in a hydro situation, but it sounds like you have no other options.

Are you using any humic acid, like botanicare's Liquid Karma? If so that will die all of your older roots brown like that. I use LK in my mixture, so all my roots look brown, but they are super healthy.

Ya the roots should regrow pretty fast if I have to cut them all off, theyre only about 2 weeks in now. I just didn't know if removing that much tap root would kill the plant. But might as well go for it now while she's still pretty young. I'll keep this forum updated and share the results.
