OK so I have two teks here that I'm looking at, one of them says basically a 6" deep tray, so why all the sterilization? Should I get a box for it? I could in essence get 6"x36"x36" of the substrate colonized and then what you mean fruit it or something. And the first one says you can can have a few runs each time? I have a ton of canning jars so basically I sterilize my choice of substrate fill up the jar add a squirt of shroom juice and a teensy bit of water and air flow and then wait for it to turn white.
Do they have a flower schedule like weed? Do I keep them in the dark? The one guy has them on his desk the other one said to keep it dim. Do they need certain light cause I have blue and red LEDs

No need to add water With your spores if you are using jars, the added water could cause some havok. All the moisture you need should be in your sub from when you let it simmer. Keep in mind the spores are usually suspended in water, this is why you don't shoot a full 10cc of spores in one jar.

With the trays, once your sub is colonized it's pretty hard for a cotam to take hold. You use sterilized jars or bags to colonize and then dump that into the trays. Cover with a casing if you want and cover em back up for a few days And then they will be ready to fruit. To do this simply take the cover off your tray and put it in your fruiting chamber. Be sure to mist and fan 2x a day.

When they say "runs" they are talking about the separate flushes. One flush will come and you pick it and then your trays will start to pin a new flush, I usually get 3 good flushes and the 4th is usually about 6 big ones.

You will get different opinions on light, i use a normal led bulb and haven't had any problems.

I know people usually knock the kits, but for my first grow I used the mycohous casing kit and it really helped me understand the process without me screwing anything up. I think it was about 30 bucks, very reasonable for the amount of booms it gave me.

Hope that answered some of your questions!

Since you're just beginning. And essentially practicing. I would go two routes. Popcorn tek. Easiest and most reliable grain to prepare. And cakes. If you do intend to do cakes. Do not just use brown rice flour. Get a nice mixed flour that has brown rice, corn, rye, etc. This way it will be a simular end product. You can also get some additives like calcium carbonate (or non-dolomitic gypsum) and some type of manure like worm casings (most popular), to cow, horse, or poultry poo (very low levela of). But these additives are unnecessary for you first run. And you initial produce can be just as good.
For fruiting. For practice just google SHROOM SGFC. Get a daylight deluxe cfl (around 5000K), and a mini heater/fan. Trust the fan is reeeeaaallly handy. It will turn your fruiting around.
Anything after that comes after practice. Trust. Practice first to find you comfort zone and plan what you do next.

My led lights produce like 100x the amt of lumens as that, or are you meaning something else?
I'm guessing shrooms have a npk need like weed? I usually use organic soil, would a tlo set up be good?

I'm going to the store in the morning to check out some supplies. One thing I need is the syringe lol.
So... Is there a way to breed other than a spore print? I'm meaning like cross pollinating species like i do with marijuana plants. And obviously I can't clone them. The misting part is gonna suck cause I was hoping it would be more of a set it and forget it kind of deal.

Anything like cross and that is not something you should even bave in your head for years later. This is not like weed. The lights.are.mainly to help induce.pinning. and to tell the main body into which direction to fruit. Many believe.that the correct spectrum and amount of can perpetuate primordial growth. Others do not. In the end. The light can assist in the evaporation of the water layer which has been a staple pinning trigger. Which does make sense since the booms do require a stable surface upon which to grow. And the leaving water assists in restoring the proper ph levels. Like natures process.

Anyone know a guy named Steve Peele? A friend of mine recommended I ask him about non sterile outdoor growing, among other things.
