so the 3590 is a beast- we know that connecting it to an alpine 64 plus will work with the ideal holder

BUT WHAT ABOUT USING A ALU PLATE? and attaching a cpu cooler to it

i mean because the sockets dont fit but if i cut a 70x70mm piece of alu 1mm thick for example mount the cob on that and then mount that to the cpu cooler would it be ok?

obviously there will be losses through using the grease twice but....anyone got thoughts on this? would be greatly apreciated

How hard you drive the chip and how warm the spot is where you'll hang it will be deciding factors. I wouldn't try it if I were planning to run the chip at 100W in a hot tent.

62W?(1750mA)

i just mean to adjust the socket size still using a cpu per cob
Still should be 50% efficient or better, so 30 heat watts.

What junction temp are you aiming for? The fuckers will survive being 200 F for a long time, lol

Since you have active cooling, I'd think you should be okay.

Well if you know something about newegg that could be an issue (not just ebay only) I think it would be a good thing to all those here that are looking to buy heatsinks. This is a forum that has had MANY shills and just bashing a place with no real details while praising another place that can be more expensive can come off the wrong way. I'm not saying you are just that it can be taken that way. SO please share these issues with newegg so we as a community can use this information to help us and others make decisions.

As for the free 2 day shipping, yes its a great thing, but is it really free when you have to pay $99 a year to get it?

But back on topic, personally if i would do another build I would probably go with the newer passive heatsinks from mechatronix or a similar company. Then i could avoid all the hassle of wiring a fan for each cpu or bar heatsink. I could just use a clip-on fan to move air around all the heatsinks and also not have to worry what might happen if one or more fans fail.

the return policy & the hoops you have to jump thru if u get damaged goods / doa goods
i bought from them for years C/S is in a nose dive
I actually did buy 5 from fleabay from NewEgg had some paypal money to burn

really?

I cooked 2 cobs that were running fir 2 weeks with a case temp(heatsink temp right near the cob) of 76C thats 169f

im not trying to see if they survive im asking if there is any big loss doing it this way

or even using a plate of alu and attaching cobs on 1 side and cpu coolers the other

If you use plate and then CPU cooler it should work as long as you use thermal paste between CPU cooler and plate I suppose. Still not ideal vs direct to CPU cooler but it should work ok. Why not do hole in the aluminum plate and put holder and cob directly on cooler?

because they dont fit on the cpu cooler lol

the ideal holder has a diameter of 65mm

i dont need the plate im thinking of ways to use cpu coolers other than the arctic 64 plus

Have them welded onto the plate....... That works well to. Of course try to center them where the cobs are going to be.

this sounds interetsing

so what exactly am i wielding? like 70x70 alu plates onto the bottom of cpu coolers?

have you found any other cpu coolers that fit the ideal holder with a 3590?

@SupraSPL ?

used server cpu coolers have a large pad @ base not as big as a AC64 does thou but a ideal 3590 holder fits with cob on copper pad 100% & room to in stall holder as well
I got some on flea bay $3 thou it will take some elbow work to get usable 12 of so far
buyer beware of sizes when buying used

server cpu cooler?

help me out- wtf is that and how do i know when i see one? =D

they look about like a A/C 64 but have a flat bottom (where CPU & cobs go )
u see them in bulk on fleabay as salvage
outta Dell servers the dual cpu models (Xenon cpu chipset IIRC ) have a nice cooler in them
I got a doz of those that for a Veg light project with budjet cree 3070's

Greetings,

Considering a 4 x CXB3590 36v @ 1.4 build.

I would prefer passive cooling if it's possible.

I believe GG mentioned in one of his vids the following is required for cooling:
Active: 6 sq inches per heat watt
Passive: 17 sq inches per heat watt

4 x 48.85 = 200 heat watts (rounded up)
200 heat watts passive cooling requires 3400 sq inches

32" of the 10.08 heatsink below = 4227 sq inches

Would this work or am I missing something?

I am curious about the 10.08 having 2.5 times the fin height of the popular 5.88 with regards to air flow over the sink.

I believe heat watts are the result o the cob efficiency.
So 56% efficient leaves 44% gong to heat.
So .44 time 200 watts = 88 heat watts.
I am not sure if this is right, but thats how I understand it.
