No, you can root flowering plants, but then you have to revert them to veg using light period (18/6) and that takes a lot of time. Not recommended unless you have no alternative.

I have also found myself in the situation where I have lost the clones of two of my favorites ( ATF and Yumbolt ). I have taken clones from the flowering plants and had no problem (they do take forever to root ) and also used the technique of cutting off the majority of kolas and re-veging the entire plant. This also takes a while but the results are worth the wait

that sounds like a great idea re-veging an entire plant and you have had success with this??????????

Sure did. As I said - it takes a while for the hormones to switch over and the plant looks strange in the beginning as the new veg grows out of the old kolas. Just make sure you leave enough bottom kolas to support the photosynthesis and flush well to remove the salts and flowering nutrients. I would not recommend doing this unless absolutely necessary, as I have heard of plants occasionally turning hermaphrodite, but if you are going to loose a strain it is worth it.

i have a question,

say i want to get 3-4 mother plants going from seed, i plant the seeds, grow them for a month under 24-7 then change the lights to 12-12 for 2-3 weeks to see which are females, then once i have the females put them back into 24-7 or 18-6 for 1-1/2 2 months.

would this be the best way to weed out the males from females on my mother plants.

I think the best way to find out if they are females would be to take clones and once the clones root throw them under 12/12 lighting. I could be wrong but I'm sure other will chime in.

Thats what Mr Green did on youtube:

Take some cuttings in rockwool and when they root take one off each plant and flower it...in a week or 2 you'll know which are female and which are male provided you labeled them all up, when you know simply lift the light and veg out the good clones and chuck the bad ones and "father" plant I guess you'd call it...if you do it like this the vegging mothers won't be pollinated coz they're vegging not flowering:peace:

Yep, this is the way. If u veg a plant and take it out, it loses potency, and could go hermie.
