I realize those colors were used mostly as a magical spectrum based on a NASA test & as an excuse because they're really just cheaper to manufacture & use as material. But chlorophyll absorption is not a joke & either are the individual tests in each mm. But the absorption chart is only a touch on what our plants need. I believe In the Emmerson effect & that the Suns spectrum is actually best (white light) but I also believe the blues & reds should be heightened to accommodate plants phase. Essentially I'm under the impression white light is by all means better/proper. Although almost equal results in flower are accomplished under a well selected R+B. So, if anything, I think supplementing the R+B with white or making a spectrum with all colors included would work better than most available Kelvin Temps. But I'm speaking from Theory & am no LED guru. But we're off topic a little. If you like Phosphar Blends, one I like is

Abiqua, Thank you for that! I wish someone shot me that info a long time ago. I see so much clearer now, for real! Up until now I've been telling myself that I have to do a side by side & would be lucky to distinguish the difference. Only about 30% of the green light reflects & the rest is used just as much as blue in its own way. I have been thinking the RQE way & that is far from giving my plants what they need. Sure they may all grow fat buds but why would I short my girls when I'm asking for so much in return!No, I don't think I am off topic at all...

In truth some green may not be advantageous to photosynthesis or other biological actions [like enzyme building etc.] but the "green" spectrum especially blending from yellow to red, covers a wide range of Nanometers and there all kinds of processes occurring besides photosynthesis...Wide spectrum white lighting at different Kelvin temps [3k,3500k, 4k and even 5k in flower] seem to be the GOAT right now and efficiency is easily surpassing 50% in photon output...
The problem with the older tech of 3 and 5w diodes is that they are usually ran very hard and and tad bit more efficient than a cfl, on a good day, and the Par watt/$ cost of those type of leds is about 3-5x the cost of the cfl [15-25% efficiency range]
Even a good HPS or CDM will push towards 40% efficiency...

I'd love to DIY really cuz I've been a builder my whole life but to be honest I'm now to tied up in growing to take the time. Now anyways. So, I am purchasing some Lights in Jan. & am having a hard time deciding. Seen some cool ones here though. Thought that Icarus was cool

if you can't diy check out pacificlightconcepts.com and tastyled.com, both have solid white cob units at a reasonable price.

I actually sent him a PM because of the lolly gagging and the shitty light options every has to chime in about...I did recommend them taking a look at your new light. Among other companies. But i felt compelled to give them good sources for lights....and personally feel, yours is included.

AquariusPanta, what happened to your V+C series? I'm following a thread on Grasscity with x2 of your lights vs. x2, 600 HPS. It's equal wattage with pretty even supplemental lighting on each side. You're probobly aware though. Real interested in the final product results & weight. I started checking out your lights when the Optics came out.
The lights you guys pointed out are nice but I am looking for lights between 450-700watts. I know multiple smaller units are better for light distribution, that's why I'd consider 450's. Can't have a cluster-fuck of lights to deal with. My next room going up in Jan. is 12'x14'. That's 10'x12' being utilized as solid canopy. My current room is 11'x9' canopy with 12 plants as that's my limit here on 1 patients card. I need to maximize my yeild so I can't take shorts on my lighting. Wish I had time to learn how to build cuz I'm a builder by trade and could kill it cosmetically, quality.
The white lights available now seem to be great for horticulture though I'd like to see them supplemented to peak between 600-680 mm until one is manufactured. Sure it won't be long. Just the 6 months or less I've been studying LEDs, many changes have been made in the industry. The prices are still redic though IMO.
I'm aware people here build DIY lights & have technical knowledge, so I was hoping to learn more as to what current companies might be worth checking out? I need them to be around to honor their warranty to as many seem to go out of buss. In a year.

I do not endorse the following product, in fact I think it's a piece of garbage. That being said, the guy has an interesting "modular" approach that is so simple it is genius.
He builds his own light bulbs.
And then he puts them into a kinda "goth vanity mirror" fixture and then they inevitably burn out because they are made out of epistars and the cooling is insufficient and blah blah.
Buuuut....is something like this the future where we have a cooliance sink/fan/cob/lens "bulb" with a very simple, universal screw base in a case with a driver where we can plug in any color temp we want (they are all the same voltage in the same vero or cxa or citizen et al class) with the flick of a wrist.
