Lighting Veg phase: 18hr cycle vs 24hr

Hello all,

Was wondering what everyone's idea is on a light cycle for a vegging phase of 24hours.
Thinking that a 24hr cycle might speed things up a little (?????)
I am growing under CFLs, however, I also have Led's which I am thinking to add during the flowering stage.

Let me know what you think.

alot of people ask this

well..
ive grown in many environments. currently my lights stay on 24/0. if its a flowering room, it still stays on that but crops get rotated or light moves. i do this for ease, maintenance and to avoid possible failure..i dont have the time to make it to all my grows daily. i try to make it weekly.

with that said. the plant likes a dark period for other biological processes, and this allows you to use stronger light even if for less time without bleaching.
the intensity is what controls internode length allowing for denser buds..i mainly grow heavy sativa and this matters to me. it wont really speed anything. once the plant reaches its saturation point it cant utulize more light, atleast on the effected area(you dont want this, but to be close. i do bleach some of my strains in flower but thats more of an "advanced" technique and personally ive never heard of others doing this). ideally we are pushing our plants to its limit, lowering lights accordingly and pumping nutes. so your realistically not getting more light at 24/0

i prefer 20/4 personally

if yiu have extra lights, use them. this is when the olant needs them.
the sun is naturally less intense in flower especially towards the end. the plant has adapted to this, same with less nutes at the end.

I'm thinking of during an experiment this New Year....two identical rooms/conditions with one being 16/8 and the other 24/0

typically I use 19/5, but I think 20/4 is likely the best bet

24/0 for me. closer node spacing and shorter veg times. also easier to keep humidity and temps constant with lights always on.

You'll not get a a definite answer as everyone here uses different it's your choice at the end of the day 18/6 20/4 24/0. I use 18/6 and will never change, it's all up to you!
You are right, but that is exactly what I wanted. A broad spectrum of opinions so I can evaluate and make mine. I am going with the 19/ 5 for the time being. May experiment with the next batch at a different ratio.

I do my veg at 19/5 too and have had much success.

I veg mine with 12:1 which is similar to the glr.
12hrs on 5.5 off 1on 5.5off.
Saves 5hrs a day from 18/6

I seen 12hr on 12off to save energy in veg but on the 12 off though must have the light kick on every 1 1/2 hr *for 30 min * key to keep plant auxins at bay to keep from flowereing. Same concept when haveing a green house and the natural cycle is darker thatn 10 13 hours

Ive used all 3 versions and i always get faster growth, tighter internodes and bigger end harvest using 24-0. But you can do whatever you like.

Agreed, different strokes different fokes, as always. I've run 18/6 my whole time growing but am going to try 12:1 or GLR next time around.
