You mean to say if one out fits their room with 12 cob fixtures that hit a 4x4 area, that their not going to need cooling? Im finding that hard to believe. So basically if one wants to fill a 20x20 area full of cobs, there's no cooling?
Well right now my tents are sitting in a 65 degree room. My tent sits at 70 degrees with it running at 600w. I have a wimpy 4inch exhaust fan on as low as possible. Much cooler then any 600w hps I have run in this exact tent in the exact same location. Probably will have to turn up the fan when it gets warmer but so far very minimal cooling vs my hps which I HAD to have aircooled or it would be into the high 80s quick.

Thanks. So your saying yes, if one was to fill a 20'x20' room up with your lights then one will have to get a split system.

In a sealed room absolutely.
If you ran your lights at night (or are in a basement) and exchanged the ambient air with outside air, I could see cooling a high wattage room w/out AC.. So long as there is good air circulation. And also depending on the driving wattages.
More efficiency = $$$ spent

Thanks. Also have to figure in on a 20'x20' room there has to be a co2 generator, so we do have to account for that heat as well. I know some will say you don't have to have a co2 generator, but you really do.

Yes usd plus some little things I had already like wire and boxes and connectors etc. Worth it in every aspect for me. Less power less heat and we'll see if I can get what I usually get with a thouie.
Can you make a few more lights? Because my Cree stock is almost back to where i bought it at.

I was referring to the extra ventilation fan and tubing needed specifically for the AC/DE hood. That said, I have not used my AC since September and wont be using it until April when the humidity sets in. If you can successfully switch from HPS to COB and get the same job done with half the watts, that would cut your total heat down by 1/2.

where can I go buy this awesome light you speak of? and how come all commercial growers are not rushing to this store to buy some???
You did see the back up and rush to copy the DE style lights, right?
I recognize your sarcasm but to answer your question we get CXB3590s from Jerry at Kingbrite for ~ $45 each. Commercial growers probably would be using them if they knew and most likely will be using them soon. Efficiency on COBs might be nearing the law of diminishing returns but prices will keep coming down.

OK, LMK when they take over the market, as of now, it's hearsay.

BTW, you probably won't have to LMK, because EVERY ONE will KNOW when and IF it happens.
and no one is using a air cooled with DE, a complete nanolux unit can be bought for about $350,plug and play. no special growing techn. needed either

I agree, for now it is hearsay but COBs really are a game changer and you can take advantage of it now if you choose to. It will take some time to go mainstream, maybe by the time COBs catch on we will be onto something else.

I have no idea what kind of HPS hood gets used most often. What I am saying is look at the PAR maps in the link, all using the same 1000W DE bulb. The adjust a wing was abysmal, Epap bad, Gavita was OK, AC/DE had the best numbers by far. If Growershouse numbers are accurate, you would need a hood like that to take full advantage of the 1000W DE HPS.

In other words if you want to use HPS and get the same levels of intensity we are getting with COB, you may have to spend more $$ than $350.

Update:
Been another week of veg and all is going well. Transplanted into 5 gals for the finish.Very nice growth under the light. Covers the 5x5 very nicely. Will probably flip within the next week or so and turn the light up to full blast. Here are some pics. The first three are under my DIY light. I also thought id throw in my other tent with the two XGS 190s and the two RW150s with my cut of Holy Grail Kush by DNA. Probably the most fire weed ive ever grown or smoked. Fing incredible stuff. They are in my DIY RDWC setup. Just flipped them yesterday.

DB most journals on here when it comes to showing off a new light what happens in closed doors stay hidden n closed doors being yeah i take 99 percent of all journals of new lights at a grain of salt show pictures of Cob light add HPS to the equation when know one is looking take pictures of plants week later claiming look at the growth lol its all BS at the end of the day and very bias
Its Very hard to compete with DE units on the market i do not care what anyone says ..
It will always come down to overall power consumption but again or many that are not tight wads its meaningless
As for me i own Nannolux lighting and will never look back @ 3 pounds dry per light is outstanding and only cost me 420 bucks for the unit with a medium yielding strain ?? Give me a stupid Yielder and i could make nanno lux look like the light that destroys everything on the market

Good eye, I don't see the red in the original photos.
OP have you added a light to your hps killer?
There's two separate tents shown. One with the 4 plants is the area 51 tent. The right side is the RW150s and the left is the xgs 190s. The tent with 6 plants in it is my diy build.

For some reason my posts aren't showing up. Anyway. The first three pics are my hps killer. The last two is my area 51 tent with two rw150s and two xgs190 s. Hence the spectrum difference
