I'm very adept at killing seedlings and am about to throw in the towel. I either burn them or starve them to death. I've only been able to grow two crops and that was using Espoma Organic soil (way too expensive and full of fungus gnats). Those crops showed many deficiencies and barely made it to harvest. Here are my total failure attempts: At three weeks from germination, I tried potting up to one-gallon pots with Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil (burned them to death). Next attempt mixing FFOF with Promix All Purpose mix and perlite (burned them). Next attempt using Promix and perlite in top half of pot and using Promix, FFOF and perlite in bottom half of pot (burned them). Next attempt using Promix All Purpose mix and perlite only. After 4 weeks in those pots, the lower leaves were starting to yellow so I used 1/4 strength Big Bloom (burned them). I tossed the failed attempts when they were about 4-6 weeks into veg.
My latest attempt was supposed to be keeping it simple and taking the guesswork out and ensuring not burning the plants: I used 60% Promix All Purpose mix, 20% perlite and 20% EWC. To that, I added 1 T. of Espoma Dolomite Lime and 1T. Happy Frog All Purpose dry fertilizer. I flushed soil and waited a few days to add my two-week old seedlings. That is supposed to provide enough fertilizer for at least a month until I pot up into 3-gallon pots and use Happy Frog Flowering dry fertilizer. I'm using RO water and Ph it to 6.3 to 6.5. My runoff water has Ph of 6.7. I have the plants in an Earth Cab Max grow cabinet made by Cabinet Grow. The LED lights are kept 10-12 inches from seedlings. The humidity is tough to regulate here in cold months even though I have a cool mist humidifier blowing at cabinet. I try to keep humidity between 40-45%. Temps are low to mid 70s at night and 80-85 during day. When temp is 85, I open cabinet door and blow a fan in there to cool it down.
See the sad pics attached. Aren't these major deficiencies or maybe Ph problems that have locked out nutrients? Don't understand how it could be nute burn. This soilless mix is supposed to work. What am I doing wrong? Is my Ph input too high? I didn't think a Ph runoff of 6.7 was bad but what the heck do I know. I've been growing my own perennials, annuals and veggies, including tomatoes, from seed for 20 years now. But I'm a total failure at growing pot and it's really frustrating the heck out of me. HELP!!
