Well I don't have any pics but this is basically what it is. We're going to be growing 2 plants, not sure which ones. Any recommendations for this size and our skill level (beginner) would also be appreciated.

A head rest about 4x2. (Will be enclosed so its a box)
2 pots, 8". Is this a good size?
2 3000 Lumen CFLs
1 tube light (not sure on watts/lumens, probably around 700 lumens)
2 ___ florescent CFLS
2 Light Socket Splits
1 Timer
1 4" fan
1 6" fan (going to test the two, see which is better)
1 white spray paint can to make it sexy

What else do I need, other than soil and the obvious stuff. Any upgrades? I don't have much more cash to spend.

if i were you id buy a ph test strips and use vinegar for ph down and calcuim carbonate for ph up, as you said your low on cash so this is the most cost effective way to monitor ph

id use 10" pots, thats roughly 3 gallon.

Are you venting air in from outside? YOU SHOULD so buy a shower extractor fan for about $25 from your local DIY store.

What are you doing about the sweet aroma ?

thats a good tip -do you dissolve the soil in water and then test with a strip?

2 3000 Lumen CFLs

~15 26 watt florescent CFLS (@ 8sq feet - assuming the head rest is the footprint, Id consider..reconsidering..the size with cfl's)
2 Light Socket Splits (hard to find in my experience; I wired everything separate and it wasn too much work but if you can find em, by all means)

1 Timer
1 4" fan
1 6" fan (going to test the two, see which is better)

One of the essentials is going to be perlite. No one likes drowning.

Also, you should probably look into DIY carbon filters as well. Might be hard with your current fans though.

Thanks for the tips guys. I am gonna see if I can find a cheap fan to bring in fresh air or something. I am creative, I can figure it out. The smell thing I am still working on. 2 plants wont be TOO strong though. I am thinking I am going to go out get some socket splitters and get some more lights. I took apart 2 more lamps so I now have 2 more sockets and cords. So with socket splitters and the new sockets I could have up to 6 new lights. I am not sure if I need to get alot more lights and how many either...

Well, I left the wood grow box outside and it poured and guess what!? It peeled and warped so I trashed it and tossed it. I am going to get some wood and build my own box. Any size recommendations for 1-5 plants? I also found a 25 watt (1500 lumen CFL)

So my total is around 8000 lumens.

The size of the box would depend on the size of the plant, im growing skunk #1 which can grow upto 3 meters but hopefully will be less. Choose ur train first before you decide how big the box needs to be.

csd- yea i take the soil and mix it very well with water, like really really well until its an emulsion, then i strain it through a coffee filter so i have a thin brown liquid and i test the pH of that, its worked pretty well for me

also, in terms of a fan im building a growbox right now and computer fans are amazing, theyre cheap and all you need is a cell phone charger to rig them up to your power strip (just make sure you insulate everything very well of course)
go to circuit city to get em,

Thanks for clarifying your ph testing method.

I've heard phone chargers can overheat burning your house to the ground so i dont think i'll be trying that anytime soon. :fire:
