Speed drying with a dehumidifier

A question :

I believe an rh of 62 is considered to be optimum during the curing / storage phase (the use of boveda moisture packs is well documented ) so is this too high or low a humidity for the drying stage?

I would say 62% is a bit high for drying, I use bovita packs for curing too but I do find the 62% keeps your bud a little more moist than I would like so I use the bovita for 2-3 weeks then remove it and let it finish drying once its all cured. My room is kept between 50-55% RH for drying.

Well that's what I wanted to hear actually.

Now the bomb shell.... I have my spare tent set up with racking in it and a.....dehumidifier running which is maintaining an environment of 15-18°c and an rh of 50-60.

Dry the hanging buds until the stems nearly snap but don't totally snap (still a little bendy) then jar with your bovita packs in a dark cool area (I use my garage or closet[best way to do this is to lay jars on side then turn them once per day making sure the buds don't clump up]) keep packs for 2-3 weeks in jars then remove, allow to cure about 1 more week and should be really perfectly cured buds ready to smoke in about 1 month time. ENJOY!!!

I haven't been able to get boveda packs here (ireland) as I've only found US sellers on ebay and Amazon. I've yet to find a decent tobacconist or cigar shop that carries them. That said, I do pretty much as you say only I put a little hygrometer in the jar and then do my best to keep the rh at that golden 62.

So far, so dank.

Yup that will work, bovita packs just help people that have problems with humidity like myself, you don't need them. Where I live its REALLY dry, its like a desert here in the mountains of Colorado so I use those packs and they are really cheap only 89 cents at the grow store. Your harvest looks delicious, what strain is that? Very nice purple and yellow/orange I love the look bet its gonna taste great too!

That's Rainbow Jones (Connoisseur Genetics). It's probably the nicest looking stuff I've grown, though I know you can't judge a book by it's colour. I grew it in the summer too, but I guess it was too warm to show any purple. Still smoked pretty good though.

hell no even the picture i posted first was slow drying and was still wet 2 weeks in which i hung dry actually it was on more or less second dry mode after sweating them buds for six - 8 hrs and then slow drying it again for almost a week
There is no substitute or drying weed it took months to get a yield there is no reason to speed up the drying process for all your hard work ..

Personally. I am not against the use of a dehumidifier to control the rooms humidity. I love in a state that in the summer. Your product will literally never dry if you don't do something to control the humidity. And 70/90% humidity isn't going to get her dry enough. Now. Using it to "quick dry" in a closet is a terrible idea. Now. I'm going to attemp drying in a tent. But using a small dehumidifier on a timer. One hour on. 2 hours off for 12 hours. Then off for 12 hours. And check results. I want them to dry and not mold. But also dry slowly over the span of a couple weeks before being cut from the branches and jarred to cure. Now. For curing I intend to put the jars in the tent and to run the dehumidifier constantly to keep the humidity at around 20-30% cracking the jars 2x a day for one hour. For 2 weeks. Followed but one time a day for 10 minutes for 2 weeks. Then just once a week for 10 minutes until product is gone. But 4 weeks of curing after 2 weeks of drying. Goal is to regulate the humidity to 40-50% while drying.

I would not call is speed drying but for over a century I would wet trim my room approx 3lbs dried.

I made racks the width off window screens sq. coming up with a 3 tier unit that i could layer side by each the flower.

Had a small fan blowing a few feet away from rack until the outside would start to get crispy. Maybe 2-3 days. ( inside would still be Damp)

Now I would use large brown paper bags like from kfc and would pile them 2/3 full rolling the top closed to the product , then I would place these 3 or 4 bags right on top of my dehumidifier cranked to 100.

Once in the morning and then at night I would open the bag , it would be formed together as its quite sticky and a bit damp at first, i would roll the block 180 and slightly pull it apart to fluff up and then roll the bag back up continue composting until it would burn.

This worked very very well for me and the weed was fantastic.
