Hey everybody..completely new to this community (and sport in general so please bear with me). I purchased some unstable concentrate..and I'm not sure what to call it because i don't think it knows what it is! It's like just a caramel mix and it is just plain ugly really. It melts and runs a bit but i can pull some pieces of it apart, just sticky. I just bought an across international oven and my yellow jacket bullet pump( again I'm new go easy on me). So now I'm looking for suggestions on how to make it better looking. Ill put a couple pics up and you guys tell me. The pics are of it just out of the fridge, so it doesnt look runny there really. Thanks everyone and please remember im a super beginner so dont go too hard on me.

Look up winterizing. You basically want to dissolve it in as high proof alcohol (ethanol, not ISO) as you can get, put in the freezer a day or two, filter, and evaporate away the alcohol.

Thank you so much for taking the time! After evaporating should it go in the oven? how much do you think i can dissolve in one jar? Also probably stupid question sorry. Will it make shatter? Lose weight?

well, that depends on a few things but reading your description and looking at the pictures I'm going to guess you are going to lose a bit of weight from the crap that filters out but not a huge amount as far a shatter I don't think so might get it to a pull and snap state but I don't think It was treated the best from trim to extract to purge. I could be completely wrong as I don't know a 10th of what most these guys do

leave it in the freezer for a minimum of 48hrs I go 3-5 days depending on if I am busy lol . heat the everclear up to make it dissolve the hash faster. and I'm not sure but I think I read a 10:1 ratio of alcohol to hash but I just eyeball test it, if it is not washing of the sides of the jar it is in when you swirl it add some more alcohol till it is doesn't seem to stick as much when you swirl it and watch it drain. I am most likely wrong on this as well but it is what I do.

I was watching a documentary about landrace strains and they had a huge table that was line with resin. The stuff looked like dirt. But then it was put into a press that looked a lot like a meat grinder and came out looking like that.
It was a very easy pull taffy consistency and sticky.
I wouldn't say there is anything wrong with it. I understand your worry to smoke it, it comes with the risk of buying it from an unknown source (if it is).
What this hash or concentrate came from is like people, from all
Walks of life and not one is really the same from the other because it depends on how it was grown and all other components involved.
Try any of these methods above but try a bit of it that is not adulterated by you. Whatever your plan is to get this "improved" may alter a state that you may have liked before. You can't change it back so smoke some first and try a change on half.

When winterizing I'll put a jar of the alcohol/hash solution into a cheap styrafoam cooler and surround the jar with dry ice, maybe 15 or 20 bucks worth. This gets it ready for the filter in just a couple hours or less.

wow that much dry ice? Granted it gets it ready but a pound on top is just enough to get it done. Plus whatever you have left can be used in a dry ice sift

After its the jar is ready I'll place a vacuum flask and buchner funnel in the cooler and do the filtering in there. A small hole on the side of the cooler is for a hose to pass thru to the pump. So the heavy amount of dry ice is also used to keep the cooler as cold as possible during the filtering process. I agree tho, about a pound will freeze a mason jar no problem.

I want to back up and say I don't know how big your jar is so your dry ice amount is valid,
I actually didn't ask how much product you were filtering in the first place. To each their own and if you're yielding a great end result I might just borrow your method if you don't mind.

Of course brother borrow away it's not mine exclusively, just some good info i have found on this site. If I'm washing 2-4 oz it seems to be a good system so far, but I know there is always room for improvement and efficiency. The main thing I noticed was a much better end result by doing it all in an enclosed environment , and as cold as possible

One thing I have trouble finding is ISO that is 99%. It's either 50 or below which is weird. I know they stock them in the stores but they are gone before I realize it. I plan on using this method to try for a liquid oil but I know that what strain I use will determine the outcome, based on how it was grown. I've got enough shatter around, looking to make a clear oil to make caviar....harder than it seems.

ive never seen iso below 50.
rarely do i see iso below 91. when i do they make the distinction of rubbing alcohol and its either 50 or 70 tp prevent irritation

i get mine at Safeway, comes out to like ~$8 a gallon of 99%

I walked into Fred Meyer not too long ago and saw 50 percent, but the 99 percent had its places just not there. I actually should have said 70 percent and below. That would be pretty watered down stuff past 50.

But haha this is the shit that some gromets sell around here for fuckin 50 a gram! I'm like FUUUAAUUCCK YOU! Black Oil. Ridden with butane taste and smell! My Qwiso looked better and my new bho would blow those kids out of the water! I'd be like 70 a gram bitch!

Oh and I wouldn't even fuck with trying to clean it up like Fadedawg (gw) says there's too many unknowns... I'd just smoke it and instead buy your own tane and do some runs yourself... But everyone has provided excellent advice
