virgin grower question about nutrient systems??

Hey there, just getting everything rolling for my first project and decided to go with foxfarm products... We are using the ocean forest potting soil to plant our clones in and have bought the nutes to follow their recommended feeding schedule?

Anyone else tried this?

Really just trying to do our best by the book to create the best product possible. Seems a little elementary to just follow directions but I figure its a good place to start off.

I'm currently using foxfarm soil and nutes, but I've amended the feeding to match what my ladies like and the soil is already rich so I try not to add to much more. Good luck on your grow.

I think I read something on here about this years fox farms ocean fresh being low I'm something then causing a magnese deficiency? Do I sound like a crazy person lol

no your, right people are saying because of the high demand for their product some of the batches of soil came out wonky. i use the nutes but i have not tried their soils yet,

Certain batches would Peter out in their PH but I bought 8 cu. worth and haven't had any issues. I add garden lime sometimes to mix to help but really haven't had to do that lately.

I'm gonna try happy frog next go round. I not only got gnats, I'm dealing with ph issues as I didn't read up on ffof soil until the ladies were already in it. It's working though and I'm hoping I make it to harvest without to much trouble.

FFOF has enough nutes to last you about 3-4 weeks.
If your doing a soilless medium, add a tablespoon of dolomite for every gal of soil. I also recommend adding hydroton (calcinated clay). Look up or read up on al taplas recipe. Also do not follow a manufactures feeding schedule, instead start off low and experiment with the dosages. Remember to ph the water after you add the nutes to it

I just bought 10 bags of new ffof, should I amend this soil during my grow or will it be fine for the first run?

Also I read on another website I should half the dosage that is on the feeding schedule? I'm just a little confused as to why fox farm would instruct you to use their products in a way that would harm your plants. Don't they want repeat customers?


Also one more question, how long after transplanting my clones should I give my first watering and then feeding? Sorry I have so many questions

Their feed line is good but it is ALWAYS better to introduce feedings at a lower rate ( 1/4 or 1/2 ) to see how well your plants will tolerate it. Some strains are sensitive to extra nutes and some are heavy feeders. Start light , if they are responding well then you won't see too many issues. Excess or deficiencies will show when the balance is off. It's a learning curve - what works with one strain may not work on something else.

Use their feed chart ONLY AS A GUIDE. Start at 1/2 strength. There are tons of modified FOX FARM feedings from users but if you start light then you will have fewer issues.

Thanks for all of the advice! Doing my best to get my hands on some oscillating fans (everywhere is sold out cause its harvest lol) & then picking up my clones and we're ready to go! I'm so stoked!

I used the whole fox farm line when I first started growing and it does a good job for tomato nutrients and if you use about half the recommended dosages. Also very very important to get yourselves some clearex and use 1 tsp per gal in ph correct water about once every couple of weeks to prevent nute lock from salt build up. Fox farms is notorious for salt build ups.
I have since switched to humboldt counties own nutrient line, which are cannabis specific and way more reasonably priced!
