How is this setup?

Hey,

I might do a mini indoor grow just to get the feel of things. I am wondering if these are some good essentials:

1)

Will put 2 plants inside. Might place sideways if need be

2)

2 of these ([FONT=Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif][FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif] Light output 3000 Lumens, Energy used 45watts (equivalent 200W), life 10,000 hours) Is this good enough?

3)
A fan that is a bit smaller than your hand but is powerful. (not a computer fan, like a shrunk real fan) I would cut a whole in the box so it blows air in and possibly have another fan that sucks it out.

4)

2 10" plastic pots. (Good size?)

I would wrap the inside of the tub with tinfoil (good or bad idea? I have heard mixed reviews) I am undecided on soil. The common one I saw was 14-14-13. I believe that is not the best for marijuana. (correct?) I would buy nutrients as well, a PH tester, air deodorizer and a soil moisture tester.

I think I have listed about everything. Anything else that needs to be changed/added? Also, should I just plant the seed in the 10" pot or should I start small and transplant.

(Ghetto? Yes.)
Thanks once again!

Might wanna start at the beginning of the Grow FAQs and work your way through. A couple modifications I think youd benefit from already is

-Fans are only used for exhaust. re: 'passive intake'
-You want to maintain 50w/sq foot. That looks like a big tub.
-Consider scrog. In small places they usually maximize efficiency
-Depending on your expectations 10" may be too big or too small. I could answer more accurately if you post the measurements of the tub
-Most growers find a soil they like and cut it with 1/3 to 1/2 perlite. Aeration and quick draining

Thanks for the tips. My plan was to grow outdoors but I figured I would try to grow inside before next summer. So I know a decent amount about outdoor growing but next to none about indoor unfortunately.

Here is the fan I bought, it is very silent. The thing I am wondering is how can I set it up so it blows air out without having to buy another fan.

Blows, doesnt suck :P

:joint:Hey Guy,

:peace: When I first started growing, I too started outdoors, but I wanted to grow inside once I moved away from my home city.

I laughed when I read your thread because it is almost exactly what I did (picture 1). I can tell you that the tupperware box hes too hot and too humid even with vents (the big white pvc tube in pic1).

I chose to go with tubes instead of CFLs for their more compact. Also I bought T5 tubes instead of the cheap "Grow Lights." I just attached them to the inside of the box's lid.

My plants quickly outgrew the box height, so I built a 4' tall cabnit (picture 2). This is awesome. I now have no pot in it, but I use it for my house plants. 4'tallx2'deepx3'wide, 2 pc fans (intake & exhaust), Thermometer and hydrometer, fart fan, lights, a cabnet lock and viola.

In all I can tell you it would be cheaper and better to build this cabnet than the rubbermade tote. I used "door skin" from Lowes as the shell of the box. Its super thin, but it was $7 a sheet (7'x3'), and I only needed 4 sheets and 5 2"x4"s.

Good luck man in whatever you do, keep us posted!:eyesmoke:

Thanks for the reply man, really helps.

I actually was driving last night and found something. I drove by a dumpster and saw a headboard about 4 feet long and 2 feet wide, with a separating piece of wood down the middle (might remove if need be). All I have to do is put a piece of wood on the front and its the perfect box. I may put a fan underneath the the plants in between them so it looks like [PLANT] [FAN] [PLANT] and it blows air up to the top of the box and out the back vent. Something like that. Any suggestions?

Also we went with a 8" pot size, is that good for a 3-4 foot plant?

Do you know how many watts those lights were, and average cost?

Thanks!

You will want at least a 3-gal pot for a 3' plant, thats definatly! The lights are 27watts I think. The T5s ran $23 a piece, but it is superior technology for flourescant growing. Check T5s out on google and on the GrowFAQ, you will really want them by then.
