Mason Jars with cardboard as the lid...

Was recently talking to someone about drying/curing today. He said he used to know growers that would trace the jar mouth on cardboard and use these as the lids. No burping involved, he said. Don't know how valid it is... Anyone hear about of this or tried this?? Seems like it would pull moisture out, but would it over dry?

that's interesting, so using the metal ring but with a round of cardboard. Could it be the perfect balance, allowing a bit of gas buildup but also allowing excessive moisture to escape, just enough to where burping isn't necessary?

I pulled this from a post where he does large outdoor grows, he uses turkey bags, even large contractor trash bags. Glass is preferred but plastic that doesn't give off chemical smell is used too it seems :

"whats important is taking away enough air to effect a sweat within the buds,air tight is not mandatory it just gets the sweating going faster,ive also used contractor garbage bags to cure,a little slower than buckets or bags but work none the less."

My buddy lost 40 lbs using contractor bags to mold...you have to keep an eye on the weed and air it out!

The physical area that the jars / containers are kept in is a variable too. The humidity level and temperatures there can vary, so what works on a dry sunny day, may not be the best thing to try on a damp or rainy day.

Best not to walk away and forget, visit the product frequently and give it a visual and sniff test now and then and tell it how much you love it. It will like that.

keep em sealed witha some bovada 62% humidity packs. cant really beat the end product compared to many other methods tried. i find the most important thing while curing is to DRY buds out competly before even thinking about hitting the glass. takes me 14 days minumum hang time. than ill even thrown them out of a drying rack for a few days for extra good measure. once steams are cracker dry pack up jars and stick those Bovada 62s in there. you wont ever look back! no burbing needed.

I am curius about the cardboard top although my humidity stays WAY to dry and i think it would not be the best for me, but if you average RH is 50-60 might work perfect!

Thanks great info, I have some 62% boveda, was planning to use them for storage after cure. But used during no burping needed? That'd be great as I get called out of town occasionally

For those who are electronics/computer inclined...Those Arduino microprocessor hobby boards are cheap. I don't think it would take much to make a sealed box with a PC fan in/out connected to an Adruino with a humidity sensor to automatically turn on/off the vent fans when the humidity is out of range.

Thanks for all the input! definitely want to try the boveda packs. This was all a curiosity and actually probably won't try it out myself. But I would love to see one with a meter in it, please post! My friend initially told me and I was sceptical from the start. Please post any and all results! Thanks RIU'er's!
