What are those "reflectors" made of? It looks like half of the light is coming out the sides
I've often wondered how much light is being lost from that but I believe Ledil engineered the clamps, not the reflectors, to have those very openings you see showing light in order to allow hot air to properly escape from within the reflector itself when attached. Considering the light is naturally dissipating at a 120 degree angle, anything above is hardly useful at a distance, especially when a reflector is involved.

Those very reflectors you see are surprisingly durable too. I personally like the ability of being able to attach/detach the reflectors to the clamps when I want.

Looking good!

I finally got my "500 Watt Vero LED Grow Light" the Bad Ass $1000.00 meant to replace a 1000 Watt HPS lamp fixture from UPS the other day bro! I had gotten one from Optic a couple weeks ago but there was an issue with case latch not closing which they remedied for me and just sent back.. and now that it's all fixed and in my hands.. ready to hang this beast!

Sorry to disappoint you, but 500W of Vero cannot replace a 1000W HPS in terms of light output. The optic 500W actually is running (4) V29 with a combined efficiency of ~33%, so I'd say it's roundabout half the bulb's output. Besides, you could build that thing yourself for under 300.

I'm gong by the coined terminology on the manufactures website guy..Optic says

"tested PAR output and penetration that will outperform any 1000 watt HPS lamp." -http://opticgrowlights.com/500-watt-vero-led-grow-light.html

I didn't say it will...I'm going to run my Vero fixture mounted right near a Raptor hood brand new, using a Ushop 1000 Watt HPS LAMP.. lol but this is just a start.. I will add more as time goes on..

Nothing disappointing, as you called it.. going on here.. everything is brand new. I am going to have lots of light. Lots of power too. I have dedicated 30 amps at my breaker box just for light.. so I can do up to 4000 Watts in this one room.

With over a decade of indoor growing experience, some of the equipment needed a refresh.
Adding LED is a change.. and some of my style is certainly changing being that this is new location for me, and working with a smaller footprint than I have conventionally been used to in the past.

Either way.. this is exciting.

sorry for threadjacking,,, ill stop now.

maybe make my own.

That claim in the optic shop is obviously false, but I guess we are used to false claims by commercial growlight manufacturers.

I think it's a good way to start with a hybrid setup, that will likely help keeping the temperatures in the right place.

Optic rec coverage area for the fixtures are overall veg footprint. 500watt optic vero29 will replace a750watt hps without a problem.
Optic grow lights are IMO the best production COB based LED on the market and most are not gonna DIY
Most are in the business of growing the big buds with high intensity:-) instead of saving $5 bucks month on the electric bill
Like Ive said many times? "If it aint glowing! It aint growin!"
BTW Optic has been doing right by the growers for awhile now.

I debated.. but in the end might end up doing multiple 500's or something like it with a DIY type setup and still implementing some sort of HID.. I have to experiment with it.. see what works best in my hands.. cuz in the end everyone's experience is slightly different based on environment/skill/genetics/methods/etc

Nothing ever gave me magazine quality looking buds with heavy yield and high vigor..with near perfect growth as when I ran HPS and MH side by side.. I expect close to the same results, more than likely better.. with HPS and these Vero LEDs running at 4000k.

Its all about the spacing when it comes to COBs
I have no doubt that you will like your 500. Very powerfull fixture!:weed:

Why do you guys fuck around with paste when silicone or graphite work as well if not better and is a gazillion times easier to work with????? I've never had any problems with either COB or Illumitex based DIY rigs using those methods. Re-usable too. The only reason to use paste is to Kapton mount COBs IMHO.
We're effin up the topic, but since everyone does it everywhere I guess it's no big deal. When I had no paste (but haste) I used a quick and dirty mixture of babyoil and graphite powder which I believe is conducting very well. It even gave me that suction you attribute to the paste. To complete that unprofessional experiment I didn't even use polyimide but well-sticking electrical pvc tape. :dunce:
The fixture is still working like a charm, well, kind of, admittedly I only used generic 4$ 100Ws.

Silicone on cobs?
