Hi All,

My first grow is around a month in, I made the mistake of getting 2 different strains so now the plants will vary in height a lot I think. I'm considering flipping to 12/12 tomorrow or the day after, hoping to get some input on whether or not to go ahead?

I'm worried about running out of height and having to chop early, would I fill my tent height inc lamp and filter if I go 12/12 now? Also should I remove any large fan leaves from the grape ape(right) to let more light to the smaller shoots? I'm worried about hurting the plant/stunting growth.

Thanks for any thoughts

you can go into flower now or later depending on his much growth you want it to have, if you wait longer = more growth, if your worried about height look up LST to make it grow more horizontal rather than vertical

They look pretty damn even in the pics I think your fine as far as that goes removing leaves is clever a great idea just to get light lower ....those leaves are collecting your light during veg why remove a necessity to growth ......and just remember after you flip they will reach up pretty good at least double if not a bit more looks like you have enough room to veg a lil longer IMO good luck

I would like to say, with quite a few grows under my belt, that removing leaves from indoor plants is ok, as long as you don't go to town. If you don't you are going to have a lot of stretching. The plants will stretch because the nodes cannot get enough light to produce buds so they stretch to open up and let light in. This also completely exhausts all the the nitrogen remaining in the plant. This is a good and bad thing since you do not want much N in flowering.
What i would do is get some pipe-cleaner ties from a craft store, or like, and bind a few leaves together. Or you can cut "half of the leaf" that way it still has food in case of an emergency lockout (the plant will eat itself to survive.)

Veg them a week or two more and lst or top em again and you'll be that much happier at harvest time. The topping and lst will give you a bush instead of a tall tree.

Hehehe, i love all the different answers and opinions. Personally id grow them tall and skinny in that tent. Id have had the light up to the top so they stretch and not top at all. But different strokes for different folks. Id let them veg for another two weeks or more and then flip. And definitely work on training them like a vertical scrog. Lookin good so far though. ;)

OK so I think I'll resist pulling leaves. I've got some soft garden tie, I just wasn't sure how to go about using it - I'll try binding a couple of groups of leaves together.

Open to any more suggestions

My flips have all come with the plants pushing 3'. They generally finish pushing 4'. Even if you doubled (which I think seldom really happens with indoor indicas) you look to be fine with height in that tent. You have not provided distance or light details so it is hard to be definative.

UPDATE:

OK so I have done some LST and built a SCROG net hoping to fill it out over the next 2 weeks before switching to 12/12. The LST has filled them out a lot over the last day and a half, even though it may not be all that visible in the photos. I have also FIMed each stem that looked good and was 4-5 nodes from the main stem (6 FIMs on each plant) I hope this was not a mistake.scrog 1.jpgscrog 2.jpg scrog tent.jpg
Any further thoughts, hints, tips, advice all very much appreciated!
