OK so the (stay green) product has fertilizers in it that feeds for 9 months. That is a slow release fertilizer meaning it gives up its nutrients slowly over time.I personally do not like those characteristics in a growing medium unless it is an organically ammended soil"things already added" bat guano, earthworm castings,ect.Home depot should the Grow mulchWhat do you think about this option with added perlite and sand i seen a bunch of people use this and get pretty good results http://www.lowes.com/pd_14258-79138-POTNB2SG_1z1406m__?productId=3353748&pl=1&Ntt=soil . I would do what you just said but ofcourse i havnt found a local store that carries Kellogs Grow Mulch which is beyond me lol
