Cut Her Down?

First grow, not sure if this is sufficient orange hairs for harvesting this weekend. The strain is AK-47, and it has been in flower for more than two months. She was severely defoliated in flower, which may have stunted growth, and I just want to harvest ASAP without losing potency, given the sacrifice of yields.. Just move on to focus on the next four plants, LSD from Barneys. Any feedback from experienced growers is much appreciated!20150918_170509[1].jpg

Looks like it could use 2-3 more weeks, but those are some juicy lookin buds :bigjoint:
Yeah, I was thinking just chop the top cola, which appears to be the most mature. That way the canopy will be evened out, then drop the light to 18 inches above the terminal buds. Top cola is the last (bottom) pic.

They will swell the most at the end....you need to get a 30x or 60x jewelers loupe, or USB microscope and check your trichomes...as for new growers it is 1 of the most sure fire ways to know when it's done....be patient...be patient ...be patient...you don't want to pull early after all this hard work right?

I agree, you have too many white pistils, they will recede inside the buds and will hardly be visible. You should get a loupe and learn how the trichomes work, you would benefit from waiting until they go from clear to foggy with a hint of red.
Your plant will greatly reward you if you follow these steps, you will get more yield and better potency. Do not forget to flush your plant with water only for 3 to 5 days before chopping, then drying and finally curing.
Good luck.

Going to invest in a scope so I can stop making annoying when to harvest posts... lol. Thanks for the feedback all.

It is not annoying, I call it student in progress, as you learn some steps, you will want to come back and learn more, it is a never ending journey.

Thanks man, currently working on the growers handbook by Rosenthal, definitely a good reader, learning all that I can!

I would agree with most to let it grow, and what medium are you useing , soil, soil-less or Hydro?

I defoliate my (MTF) The Original Alaskan strain over 50% around the 3 week flower mark it takes a few days for them to catch up but they will, Ive seen my buds grow a 1/3 more over night, but i grow the big lady's ( 6ft to 7ft ) in soil with proper lighting, temp and air.

As mentioned above the last few weeks the buds really plump up and pump out more resins.

The loop is a must have every strain is not the same even from the same seed mother its all up to the way you grow them IMO.

The medium is happy frog soil, and I made the mistake of not adding much for aeration. She has pretty much gone through hell and back in terms of stress... According to Rosenthal, if one uses an MH instead of HPS in the final two weeks of flower, THC content increases.

I use only HPS bulbs my experience has been using the light spectrum in a sodium bulb (More Red for flower and More Blue for veg ) is much better then the HID not to knock the HID its just what I've learned over the yrs.

I can only speak from what i know and that being said the size of your buds are one part genetics and one part overall heath of the plant, proper lighting and defoliation IMO and experience allows the flowers of the plant to grow faster/bigger then with plants that have dying leaves shading your bud sites LOL. I know that might open up a big can of argument but it is not meant to start argument.

I would say that the flush is the point in which you give your buds their last little push and most genetics play a huge roll.
I'm not sure that helps or not but its all i got in response :).

Yeah, many say use MH for veg and HPS for flower, HPS all the way is fine (sans rooting/seedlings). High pressure sodium bulb is HID, as is metal halide. I'm not sure what you mean by that.

High Pressure Sodium HPS Grow Light

Metal Halide MH Grow Light Bulb

Sorry for the confusion ;)
The main difference between the two bulbs is the type of light spectrum they produce (because of the gas inside). Different gases produce different colors of light when ignited, and thus we can choose which color/type of bulb to use depending on what stage of growth a plant it in.
The HPS has a red or orange tint to it and is used primarily in the flowering phase of your plant's life. The MH bulb focuses on more of a blue spectrum and is used primarily for the vegetative stage of plant life.

I am far from confused, but thanks for clearing that up. Plants obtain the same amount of energy regardless of spectrum. HPS is more cost effective than MH, I'll veg and flower with HPS...
