thought there were filters that you could just screw on the sink and go however i dont see any, and i kno zero about `plumbing and dont wanna pay for someone to install it and i have no faith in myself learning from youtube videos so could i just screw it on the sink spiicket (where the water comes out) or are there ones that do just that? i found a really (to me, i kno nothin about plumbing and ro filters, remember) nice 5 stage for 140 i believe ill post the link below but if i have to install it under the sink im gonna have to find another way its just gonna be for plants ive got water harder than joe pesci in goodfellas, first indoor i did first had seroious lockout from the iron within the first month ive got a well filter but it doesnt do anything just change thecolor from orange to slightly less orange and i cant keep havin my girlfriend bring over 10 gallon of her tap every other day please help gotta buy it soon serious probs with tyhe outdoor this year needto start asap gonna order one as soon as i know what im buying thanks for the help and srry for this long ass post

If your water sucks that bad you need more help than an RO system. You need a double filter setup just to remove gross contaminants from the water and a softener before it ever enters your RO. Otherwise you will be replacing the membranes often and that ain't cheap. In fact that is THE major after-installation cost involved with RO.

I found a cheap readily available way to get pure water. Just go to Walmart and buy a Zerowater water purifier. It has 5 stages, one being ion exchange, Says the water comes out reading 000 ppm on the TDS meter they include, removes 99.63% of all dissolved solids. That's all you would ever need. Costs under $50.

The stuff you can find at Walmart, huh? you get your ion exchange water purifier plus that TDS pen you needed anyway, all for cheap. I suppose all you would really need to buy is the replacement filters and make your own large sized unit to put a few gallons through at a time, but I want to get that TDS meter. I never got one yet. That's actually how I found the Zerowater pitchers. They came up when I searched for a TDS meter. That's gonna save me a few hundred for a RO unit. These little babies should do just fine for hydro needs.

It may be possible to regenerate the ion exchange resin with acid/alkali and save on buying new filters as often too. Most ion exchange resins can be regenerated several times. Might be hard to get at it though, being inside a sealed unit with the other parts of the filter. The carbon would probably absorb it or something. Maybe just cut it open and use the ion exchange granules by themselves after putting the water through the carbon part of it separately. Guess I'll have to open one up and see what's in there, after it stops working well.

This is what you need. The sediment and pre-carbon filters will need replaced more often with the water you describe but they will add to the longevity of the expensive RO membrane. You will just have to see how long the filters last for your application. My water starts @ around 350-400 ppm and one of these little gems gets it all the way down to 008 ppm!! lol. A must have for any hydro grower, imo

Not sure about any other products but RO will get your water down to close to zero, but as stated, you may need to prefilter very well it to add longevity to your RO setup. The under counter ones typically have a separate tap and you will need to tie into the drain as well, its never that simple lol. Oh and you may need a booster pump as well.

Under-sink RO units will not work for him. Or not for long. Not with his water quality. Run it through a huge sand filter and a line of progressive particulate filters first and maybe. But the expense of that has caused cities to simply close some wells.

Ya I kind if alluded to that with prefilter very well lol. I had issues with my well and am drawing from the lake and changing sediment cartridge every other day lol. Need to extend my intake a bit deeper me thinks lol.

Consider making yourself a cheap sandtrap barrel to initially run the water through. I used to live with this chick who was into Koi big time.Water tech for damned sure!!!!!! You learn a lot from other disciplines.

Just got the well pump up and running so lake system back to irrigation full time. But yes pretty cool filter, it would help the sprinkler heads from clogging occasionally lol. I really would like to run a RO filter for the grow room but logistically a real pain right now. I have learned what I need over the last few years to compensate for high calcium and other stuff in the well water to keep it fairly stable. I do have a whole house UV light which I believe helps with root issues somewhat.
