Hey fellow growers, im just wondering wether cal mag should be used along with my nutes. Im still a novice with only a few grows under my belt, and in the past i have had some defficianys, ive been told it could be cal mag def..
My water is soft with a ph of 7.2 out of the tap and a eutech ppm of 110 which is just under 0.2ec.
This is my first grow were ive used a ph and ppm tester before i just used to read the back of the nute bottle and use straight tap water with no ph adjusting.
Im my growing medium is canna coco coir, with 30% perlite, im using canna a and b, and rhizotonic at the moment as im still in the first week, 5 day old seedlings to be precise, im feeding them 0.7 ec 0.2 water 0.5 solution.. i thinks thats about as much info as i can think of.. ive got cal mag at hand im just unsure wether to use it or not???

If you use LED I would use Calcium as it can be depleted by LED lights, if you don't use them then look for rusty spots on leaves which is usually a calcium deficiency.

ive never used coco coir however ur soil is probably self buffering..... cal mag is an additive yes u use it ontop of your regular nutes ... and should give it to ur plants consistantly... especially in flower...

Use in early vegation stage (Seedling and Veg stage) and then weeks 1-3 of flower ( pre-flowe early flower - (Wk 1) early flower (wk2-3) flower stage) (cal-mag) these mention are specifc times when the plant will benefit most from it's use

Yes the coco coir pro im using is a self buffering coco, i almost went with natrual the one without buffers.. glad i paid the extra couple of quid
after feeding test ur run off(the water coming out of bottom of your pot)... that will tell u ur ph
Yeah i tested my my ec run off last night and it come back at 0.6, thats 0.1 lower than the feed i put in, and my ph went from 5.8 to 5.9 from the run off.. still all new to this so is it normal to get a lower ec tun off??

How much should i add as my ec at the reccomended dose for this stage and the cal mag will obviously raise it.. im using the ec, and product canna grow guide calculator...

i understand that... are u testing ur ph before or after feeding tho... ur ph will change if your soil isnt self buffering causing it to spike or drop......thats why i said test the run off. that is whats left after draining thru ur soil so it should show ur true ph

Im not using soil, as i said im using coco coir and perlite, im pretty sure that 5.9 is not to low in coco, also ive used coco for my last 3 grows and had some pretty Amazing results.. i documented a grow on here were i yielded 56 ounce of 9 plants under 3 x 600w hps and that was without a ph or ppm tester, so ill be sticking to coco.. its all i know...

I ph nute solution to 5.8-6.0 for the coco. No need to test runoff ph.
If lower EC runoff then what you put in, up the EC.
99% of my coco grows I'm at 1.7-1.8 EC as full strength. But I also acheive plenty runoff every watering. It works every single time.

Appreciate the advice dude.. my seedlings are only 5 days old, when i first potted them, i pre fed the coco with just ph water, waited for them to pop above soil and added a just 50 ml of nute mix to each pot as i didnt want to overfeed, then i gave one of my babys a run off nute mix to see how it reacted.. maybe the lower ec run off is due to the water only start...

Do you use cal mag with yours?

If my tap water is low EC, or RO water, I add the calmag to where I end up around 0.5 EC then add base nutes. That is how much I add when I'm at a total of 1.7-1.8 EC. In your situation, no need for the calmag with seedlings. I would be feeding with an EC of 0.5-0.6 of just base nutes, and start bumping it up with time. Start adding a little calmag when they really start going,

I've grown in coco for years, in cities that had tap water with an EC of around 0.5 and never needed extra Ca or Mg. ;-)
