whats up everyone,
so let me lay it down for you guys, i just built a stealth box 3ftx2ftx5ft(wxdxh).
would i be able to run HPS lights without high temps? i'm gunna have the box in my closet, the box is gunna have a fan for intake and exhaust, i don't like the idea of having an exhaust duct running out of my closet. is it fine to have the closet doors shut and have the air circulating in there. i have some pics of my stealth box. please help thank you!:peace:

it shouldnt get to hot but depends on your location and temps where you are to.

a desk fan blowing up on your light should help with the temps and circulation alot. :peace:

as long as the temp in your house is cool enough and you have good air flow you should be fine. If things are still to hot consider a DIY cool tube :)

DIY cool tube?? this is the first i've heard about that. what kinda of light spectrum does it use?? would you recommend using it to flower? cuz i think 150w would be to hot and clf's won't give me a good yield. thanks for the replies!:peace::joint::hump:

if that cabinet is vertical you could def. put 150w of anything and more in there with good enough fans. i would be able to see it better but the pics are teeny. :-|

sorry just looked at yer post again and saw that it is vertical...about your vent tho is there a way to make it flush with your closet door and kind of camo it up a bit then you wouldn't have any heat issues.

Hey davemoney, have you thought about using a mix of flourescent and LED? I have several friends who are growing with that kind of setup very successfully. I'm switching from my HPS setup to LED/flourescent cause I like it so much. LED's use a fraction of the electricity that a standard bulb uses, and they generate very little heat. You can also get the correct light spectrum with LED's. Used in combination with the right CFL bulbs, you can put together one cool, small-scale setup (unless you have the dough to buy a factory model:-) ). Just my 2 cents worth, anyway. Good luck with your growing endeavors, dude!

so does the light have an exhaust and intake running through it?
Yes. the intake for the light can also be the opening for the exhaust for the space.

cooltube intake (also air from room going in) > cools the light > and is exhausted from the room. kill 2 birds with one stone.

or set it up as a separate system.

I'm doing basically exactly what you are, but my cabinet is 3 feet instead of 5 and it lives where our A/C enter's the garage, so the closet stays cool. If it weren't for that fact, I think the room would heat up pretty quickly! You will want to vent out of the closet somehow, unless your house stays nice and cool. Also, a 150w HPS should be awesome in your cabinet, and I bet you could get away with just using a few fans to keep air blowing on the bulb. I've been putting frozen bottled water liters in front of my intake to keep temps down (it's been over 100 degrees here!) and that works nicely.

If you end up needing a cool tube, you attach your duct work to one end, run it to your exhaust (don't forget a scrubber somewhere in there) and leave the other end open. Put a pc fan at the open end and this will help pull old air out of your box AND cool the bulb. You should google icmag and search for 150 watt hps club, LOT's of folks having great results with small scale grows using all manners of 150 watt hps.

Cheers!

alright i have one more question, sorry to bug but you seem to be the only one helping me out. so i have the intake duct>running thru the>cool tube>then the exhaust w/ a scrubber of course. does it just get the hot air of the light out? what about the air in the box? would i need a separate set up for that? cuz i wanted to circulate that air with a intake n exhaust.

o yeah n i'm having the exhaust duct coming out the top of my closet then sticking it in a 6' artificial ficus tree to be stealthy lol
