Plants getting to tall during flowering, what do I do?

First time grow, outdoors, germinated seeds indoors in March, moved outdoors in May. They were in smaller pots until about July when I planted in the ground. Out of 5 all began to flower about 3 weeks ago except 1, the big one. I thinned the heard to allow better light penetration and air flow thinking it was being smothered and now it is flowering, but growing rapidly in height and this is very bad! I don't want to top her, what other options do I have? I can try to upload pics tomorrow. I think the big one might be a stray seed that got mixed in somehow, but their all bag seeds from some really good quality I got. Any advice and answered would be greatly appreciated.

You give no distance and have no strain details. Everyone is guessing. Both my strains stretch like crazy for the first 20 days of flower or so and then add like no height from that point.

welcome to RIU @Raven121415

@bravedave has a point; usually by 21 days, i can count on my SSDD being done with her stretch. your post does sound like three weeks later, you've got a girl still stretching! is this true? that could definitely be a problem  but a good problem :eyesmoke:

so either let her grow, or lst/tie her down. post up some pictures and let's see her please

I have no idea on strain as they are bag seeds, but pretty sure they are indica dom from what I have learned. They are already about 4 1/2' tall and have gained about 1 1/2-2' height in last week. I have pics but my iPhone won't let me upload them for some reason. I can not get the "chose file" button to function, but the "close" one does. Letting them stretch would certainly put me at risk being seen.

Try this, hit upload a file, close it and then hit upload file again. Now try the choose file button. If it doesn't work close it and open it again. Sometimes it takes 3 try's to work.

Another thing to try(works on the first try every time) is to tap on upload file then switch tabs and come back and it works. Now it will let you tap on choose file

When top colas grow too close to the light there is a number of things you can do. Can you move the light farther away? Can you move the plant farther from the light? Topping is another way to cut down the top-to-light distance. My favorite way is to pinch the main stem about a foot from the top and let that foot-long piece hang so it is perpendicular to the ground. Pinching won't hurt the cola and allows for continued bud growth. In fact, I will sometimes pinch a top even when I don't need the extra room. Buds on a pinched stem will continue to grow towards the light and will often increase the yield..

Good luck, BigSteve.

I have had the same issue outdoors where a plant got way too big during stretch and I just cut the top (smoked it too) and the branches below the cut got super huge. Its not ideal but your plant will still give you a decent amount.

He is growing them outside. So his best bet would be to just tie them down.
Oh shit...I had missed the planting in ground part...didn't compute that height would be a worry outdoors, but I guess it certainly can be.
@Raven121415, excluding myself, you have some RIU superstars dropping by here and you can feel comfortable in their options. Don't eat it though. :).

Ok, here are pics that are a week old. Give me a few and I will get new ones today. The first pic is a shot of all 3 ladies together, then each one individually. The last one seems to be a completely different strain, yet similar to the other 2, but it just started flowering about a week or so ago, while the other 2 have been flowering for 3-4 weeks. The big one in question is the odd one. I forgot to mention that it also split off into 2 really big main tops about a month in on its own. Was really excited about it, but now I am worried it might be a less than desirable strain that got mixed in.

As promised, here are the new pics. Any advice, comments would be greatly appreciated. I did tons of research before attempting this, but all the book knowledge in the world couldn't compare to real life experience. Also, am I right about to big one being of much lesser quality? The last 3 are the plant in question. The last pic shows the 2 tops that branched on that one also.

You could plant some taller plants on the street side, or wherever you don't want people to see it.
There are a lot of options, you could place several stakes around it and tie the branches down, or just bend them by hand. Or bend the entire stalk over @ 90 degrees
