When do you start counting Flowering Days??

I always thought it was number of days from 12/12, but I was told it takes a week or two after flip to start counting the days. For example I'm planning on getting some beans that are supposed to be done in 8 weeks, but I was told it would be more like 10 weeks, is that correct?

Guess I'm gonna have to buy a 'scope, I was just trying to plant when to actually add in the second half of my batch. Thanks folks.

flowering technically starts the first night long enough to initiate response. the hormones build the very first night, deteriorating during the day. each subsequent dark period long enough basically starts flowering over again.

counting flowering from when you are able to distinguish the difference not only doesnt make sense logically but has no real value. when do you personally decide its close enough to a bud to be flowering? when nodes shorten?
outdoor growers use personal observations as they cant tell you exactly when light levels were short enough, that doesnt mean its proper

I agree, typically I think it's standard of when triggered.
That's what I always count at anyways.
Day one is when it goes from my 15/9 schedule to a 12/12.

Guess I'll have to get a 'scope, since apparently everyone's got a different opinion (I've heard 2+), although I'm in agreement with you last two posters (not saying watchin trichs is wrong by any means, it just seems crazy that breeders wouldn't say how long from flipping) Whatever though, no big deal, I appreciate the input.

@greasemonkeymann do you do 15/9 for all of your plants? I've been reading about how I can do 16/8 instead of 18/6, to cut down on energy, with little to no difference in my veg, but when reading about GSR (which I will not be doing!), some people said Sativas deal with it better than Indicas, and if 15/9 has worked for all of your Indicas, that will probably be my approach as well.

ahh, the 15/9 schedule I do solely because I like to stick some clones outside, and if I don't have them on a relatively short day (for vege that is) they flower as soon as I stick them outside (like in june)
So the 15/9 is just so they don't freak out when they go outside.
if you are looking to just save money on electricity usage, there are some members that do that here, but it's a different schedule, I think they break upthe night with an hour of light... something like that..
I don't really have many indicas, most of my strains are sativa dom hybrids.
right now I have only one indica, and that's the elephant tranquilizer from Bodhi seeds... got me some nice lookin leaves on that strain AND I got a squatty-ass male too, gonna use that for some pollen chuckin
but yea, if you do mess with your light schedule, do it slowly, some strains I've seen flower at 17 hrs of light!

I can tell you for sure, and with 100% conviction, that a the "number" of days for flowering, really is just an approximation.
I always, always, always, just eyeball it from a naked eye, after a bunch of grows you'll just get the hang of it.
I honestly have never used a microscope to judge when it's done.
Especially if you grow the same ladies over and over.
The overall sparkle appears different, looks more a whitish color rather than just crystally. That's when I harvest, but keep in mind I prefer my herb nice and RIPE!
A nice and ripe sativa dom hybrid... yes sir...
BUT, I don't own a ph tester, anything to calculate PPMs, or own a microscope, so really, my grow is rather low-tech.. but we are growing plants guys..

I love you for that. I've been reading the harvesting sub-forums, and I will say, when people are looking at their buds, I was kind of thinking "ok, so harvest when it looks like nugs I would buy"

Thanks, I think I will give it a try at 16/8, as most of the strains I picked out aren't supposed to be finicky.

Lol, you must be psychic, that's exactly where my minds been the last day or so. After some reading, it sounds like it's not for me, at least with my current time constraints. Much obliged though :)

no time to age the soil?
If ya wanna get your feet wet, get a bag of vermifire or roots, preferably the vermifire.
no aging needed.
Most that try organics usually stick to it, but a lot of it is a philosophy sorta..
I have done a vermifire grow with water only.
Give the lady enough soil room and it's simple to grow great herb, assuming the genetics are there.

Honestly, it sounds like something I'd like to do in the future, but I'm thinking I'll go more "traditional" (bottled nutes) for my first couple runs, then after I have a tiny bit of experience, I'll switch over.

I'm a big fan of K.I.S.S. I read earlier about just using promix and Jacks Classics 20/20/20, from beginning to end, which sounds hard to mess up, so I think that's where I'll start.

But hey, if you can prove me wrong, I'm all ears. Organic sounds better for a lot of reasons, honestly, it just sounds like a lot of "moving parts" that I could mess up.
