led or hps

Strong opinions to say the least. I bought both and spent a lot of money in the process. That's ok by me b/c now I know first hand the results of each and when combined. ......the led is now an accessory light for the top or sides. It's good to have but in order for the led to start and finish a plant (s) you must take advantage of every reflect able surface. A tent comes to mind as the best choice. At $500 the led was twice as expensive as the hps/mh light setup. I got two HID 600w each with hood and bulb for less than $500. The HID just dominates the LED, it towers over the pinkish light. Peeps are fascinated by the led though, it has good curb appeal but compared to the HID setup that I have now there is no way the led is on par or even close as of yet. No doubt one day they will be because there is a lot of R&D going into these lights but until that time go with HID lights.

Lmao no blurple. White leds that use cobs. Pacific light cocepts, area 51, amare Technologies or optic lighting. They will match and out perform hps. And last 10 times longer and the most efficient lihhting. If you go with hid. Cmh is a much better option than hps. More efficient and lasts 3 times longer. . The lec 315w cmh's kick ass. Then there's induction too inda gro . This are great too. That's what I rock. Same lamps / bulbs for the last 2 years and still getting great results.

If you run hps, only run hps if you have 20 foot ceilings and run only Gavita de or digilume de, anything else is crap. Those lights you have to have 3 feet away from the canopy. That's why you need high cielings.

If you are growing for a small amount of smoke in a tent or closet and can't afford or don't want to use an Ac.. In some circumstances like these LEDs would be ok.. I truly think they are a waste of money . You can get 3 pounds out of a 5x5 space with 1 lamp with hps. Find me an LED that does that
600w of led is going to be just as hot as 600w hps so the ac thing is kinda a myth imo second show us that 5x5 with three pounds if your going to throw stones and last if documents and numbers are of any value to you

everything this man said is true
Tons off people hitting well over a gram per watt in the led/cob world these days i think that's worth mentioning too

600w of led will not be as just as hot as 600w of hps. It depends on the efficiency. Hps is about 10% - 20% efficient where cob led's are about 40-50% efficient. So the more effecient the less heat. Other led panels are 30% and 40% . Gavita are hitting 40%efficiency but a 600w Gavita pulls over 700w at the plug.

The cost of led 5 watt cob- type lights is prohibitive especially in such a changing market because next years model will....exactly my thought. It will be better and outperform what just cost you a cool thousand to cover a 4x4 space. Red MH/ enhanced hps with more blue or a combination bulb is already at the top of the game. The bulb is what counts for results, not the ballast, especially an electronic one My 3 Apollo setups continue to grind away up to 18hrs/day going on a year for less than $600. You'd never do that with led unless you spent triple the cost. But it is handy to light up the top of a too tall sativa with 3-4 weeks to go.

If there is no heat difference I don't know why people would waste there time with them. If you look back far enough I have pics on here that I pulled damn close to 3lbs per my first year growing. I don't mean to chest puff but I'm smashing those numbers now . Hitting over 2.5 as an average not as hero runs .

still all energy turns into heat. led will allow more light to the canopy for less watts that's the only way you'll save on heat

last time you talked about how you run 35w per foot with your hps so I'd like to see this 3 pounds of fluff
