Hey guys, ill keep this short and get to the point. I was looking to move for a fresh start and go to school. I am happy with the climate in Oregon, perfect temps for myself. Along with MJ being legal, and if housing wasnt rediculously priced in the area I would be interested in looking for a job/House out there.

Is Housing decently priced?
Whats the job industry like out there?

don't settle for vancouver. no one deserves that.

there's jobs there in the "silicon forest" if you are a computer guy, and they are mostly on the west side of portland near hillsboro. find yourself a little hovel out past the washington county line near the 26.

vancouver sucks balls and everyone knows it. it is the alabama of the northwest. no one likes vancouver, and those who say they do are white trash who want to get the hell out of that shithole.

washington county, especially west of hillsboro, is some of the most scenic and rustic old farmland there ever was.

Vancouver has nearly 200k people, far from being rednecky like you're implying, and Washington county is much more conservative than Clark. Plus, no tax with Oregon ID, and everything from Costco to Target is over the first exit into Oregon if you're really worried about the sales tax.

Washington county has a HORRIFIC reputation, especially for cannabis growers. I'm a member of a couple pretty large OMMP groups on Facebook, and Washington county is up the ass of everyone, even doing stings, posing as patients to meet growers, all kinds of sneaky shit. I'd pass on that all day.

Yes, so horrible in the couve.... That's why 100k people who work in Portland would rather live in Vancouver. O_O

A depressing place, not enough words to describe of how much of a cesspool and shit-hole is. Iv never lived in Tacoma, Washington or other depressing places like Vancouver, Washington.

Im sure there are more depressing places out there, but Vancouver from personal experience takes the cake. No jobs, an abundance of illiterate pieces of white trash, food stamp abusers, ignorant people who seem they have spent their whole life living in a cave. A bunch of wanksters and wiggers, spoonfed bitches who post pics on facebook, myspace, and other bullshit social networks drinking a can of beer proclaiming they are hood and hard.

King of meth addicts and copious amounts of drug abusers, bad weather, a surplus of rain almost 90 percent of the year or more, no entertainment. Downtown Vancouver is dead like a grave, just a bus stop and some drug junkies, pan handlers and some stupid cafes with the greyhound bus station.
Where can I find a place that has no hope or promise and I am 100 percent depressed? That is easy that is

Of course country life anywhere is great, just like you're suggesting somewhere 25+ miles outside of Portland, you'll notice I suggested staying out of Portland proper as well. You can't suggest somewhere 25+ miles from a city, then cut down Vancouver's downtown / nightlife. The purpose of a suburb isn't to offer exciting nightlife. I'm unsure what your problem with Vancouver is lol, but your hopping around to different arguments with no real rhyme or reason.

It's got lower crime than Portland, better schools, and cheaper cost of living.
Basically all the benefits of living in a suburb lol.

I'd choose Vancouver over Gresham, or Beaverton, the other two large Portland suburbs.

Plus, paying 400k for a house in Portland when the same one is 200k in Clark County is just hilarious.

houses cost less in vancouver because no one wants to live there.

i've seen interstate highway truck stops that were more desirable than vancouver.

east portland is almost as bad as vancouver.

Honestly, I have a good job but I really want to go to school. Im young so but handful of years out of HS, so I would only be traveling with a couple grand, grow gear, cats and gf...

Im not sure if im trying to necessarily settle down there, but who knows. I heard colorado is expensive Nd overrated supposedly..whole thread telling me to not move there.

Just dont want to live in the ghetto, I enjoy diversity so to speak. Id be happy with somewhat upstanding community that isnt freaking 1200 1bedroom halfass area.

Northwest in general seemed desirable to myself. I enjoy high 70s weather, and seasons. Idike to live in outskirts of a city, as my gf and I like to go out. Ride a bike to school would be great...

from the fourth of july until the first week of october, oregon is ideal. it doesn't rain and it doesn't get too hot. but it rains the rest of the year, nearly every single day. it is grey and between 35-45 degrees from november until march. those are the two seasons there.

1200 won't get you much unless you move to the outskirts of salem.

Washington County has Nike and Intel, people live there to be close to work, not because they want to lol.

529k in WashCo is telling, Traffic is a fucking nightmare. The 26 is always backup coming and going. The WashCo sheriff's are total dickheads, and Bevo is even worse.

If you want to enjoy the nightlife, you can get something cool in the Hawthorne/Belmont areas, or even Sellwood. Just be prepared for a roomy, but cool areas, close to downtown with easy public transp.

Clark county is great if you get out a bit. No income tax and rive across the bridge for no sales tax. Winner winner, chicken dinner!


If you're into meth, though, Washington county is your new home, please.

Unless I missed someone else saying it, the other thing to keep in mind if you're really considering vantucky (er, vancouver) is you can't grow your own there as a non medical person. In oregon (like colorado) you can have 4 plants without being medical...

Portland is one of my favorite american cities, but there is some pretty god awful traffic (not to LA levels yet, but on par with places like chicago and seattle). If you avoid driving during rush hour, stay in the neighborhood you live in, or can max it places, i heartily suggest pdx. Really though, you need to visit the place to decide if it's right for you... Once upon a time I was choosing between portland and austin. I never visted austin after seeing portland ;)
