24/7 how long is too long.

Enigmatic Ways

I think 24/7 is a waste of energy 18/6 is the way to go. Plants need rest even in a vegetative state.
Were do you guys get this information from "plants need rest" people these are plants not humans! I remember reading a scientific journal about plants that don't need any darkness during vegetative stage, they actually thrive more than what they would if they were to receive darkness. And I've seen side by side comparisons and what I've noticed was the plants that received 24 hours of light were about 10 to 20 percent bigger on average, were able to hold their own weight during flowering instead of needing something to secure the branches. Now the real question remains, is it worth the extra electricity you will be burning and that's personal preference.

Rest is fine, but they absolutely do not need it and they cannot tell how much dark cycles they receive. Some parts on earth are lit for 24 hrs +/- some times. All bullshit aside, vegging under 24/0 is not a waste of energy as they get much bigger by week 4 compared to 18/6.

spot on. electricity cost is another stupid argument. you'll need at least another week in 18/6 to catch up with a plant grown under 24/0.
lets say 14 days x 24 hrs=336 hours. 21days x 18hrs=378hours.

many of growers have proven that MJ plants don't need rest but never the less just because you can, does not necessarily mean you should.

I'll use 24/0 for the first week and maybe a bit longer if night temps are rather cool.

I've used 20/4, 19/5, 18/6 and 16/8, all seem to achieve similar results, so I'm thinking 16/8 will save electricity and bulb lifespan with as good or maybe even better results.

I run 24/0 from seed into the 1st few weeks. Once they get bigger, they 'look to me' like they are healthier on 20/4 or 18/6. I know cannabis is a c3 and doesn't require darkness but my plants look better 'to me' if they have some rest time. That's what works for me, and that's what I do.

bulbs last longer with fewer on/off cycles. as do magnetic ballasts.
