Evening RIU fam! I have a quick question that most likely majority can answer. When subcool created his recipe for the super soil, he requests to use 8 "large bags" what does he mean large bags? cuft? and second question is how many gallons or quarts does that specific recipe make?

8 bags are 1.5-2 cubic feet . I'm not sure how much it makes ... figure how many cubic feet total do you think it would be?? 30 cubic feet is 225 gallons so use that as a measurement

Sub originally used Roots Organic soil as his base which comes in 1.5 or 3 cubic ft bags.

If you want to use his recipe as a guide but make adjustments, a good rule of thumb is to use 2-3 cups of nutrients rich ammendments per cubic foot of base soil. That includes things like alfalfa, guano, kelp, blood and bone meals. I don't include my rock dust and lime into the 3 cups rule because I use like 4-8 cups of rock dust alone per cubic ft. The mineral amendments can be used heavier.

This is the most upto date recipe I have. I think he doesn't use the crab or charcoal as it's not on the list urb mans Instagram page. I like to let it cook/compost for longer than 8 weeks and use the max amount of amendments, it keeps my indoor happy till week 6 or 7 and then I feed about 2 times with bottles. Also lots of mycos and beneficial bacteria.

Its best to put it around the roots when you transplant since its benefits come from the relationship between fungi and the roots. I make my hole Im going to transplant in and sprinkle the mycos into the hole before planting so they are in direct contact with roots right away. This is how I was taught to do it.

There are a lot of members here with more complete recipes to be honest. But any super soil is a step in the right direction.

I think it's a tbs per gallon of soil. I use pretty big raised beds so that would take a lot of mycos that way! I just toss in a few spoonfuls per hole and hope they populate more on their own once in contact with the roots. You can even take a handful and pat it into your rootball before planting. I'm a pinch of this and handful of that type grower. Organics are very forgiving.
