what is the footprint on a gavita pro 1000 de, and how much heat does it make?

I have the opportunity to get a double ended gavita 1000w with the 1150 turbo. I am concerned about heat, and I want it because i feel the increase in height off the canopy should give me more spread for my 5'x6' room. but if it makes a lot heat compared to a enclosed hood I may have to pass. But it's hard to turn down being how cheap it is.
Will this be the case, will this light cause more heat than an enclosed hood, and how much more? footprint? and any other advice about this light will be great.

recommended footprint is 5'x5'. they are about as hot as a standard 1000w hps but u cannot directly air cool the bulb like on a standard hps. u should take the glass out of your hood and turn off the exaust fan (or exaust from the top of your room rather than through the hood). if the temps get too high they will get too high with a gavita too

I was under the impression the gavitas were designed for a high bay, commercial environment and needed to be hung higher than most grow rooms can allow to get the light spread they talk about. I was going to get one until i , believe i read, that they really aren't optimal with a head height under something like 10-12ft. The head height was also recommended for heat capturing and removal, because like you said, they aren't supposed to be cooled at all. i only have 7' of total head height otherwise i definitely would have got one.

I'm kinda starting to regret not going the DE route..i can tell the side of my room closest to the socket end of the bulb isn't as bright as the other end. I have to keep rotating plants for even coverage.

I just had to grow a little shorter plant under the gavita, But the yield increase was well worth it. I have a buddy running 2 rooms with 18 in each room, pretty standard height. He uses the controllers which are awesome. If it senses it too hot, it lowers the wattage of the lights

I'm going to. Im just not willing to do it on 9 foot ceilings. So ill be getting one of those tall barn looking sheds. Im about 3 weeks out from all that.

I'm in flower now with 9 foot roof . If you can stay at least 30 inches from the canopy it's doable . That's dope your getting a shed , I have a buddy that does a 6 lighter in a shed barn thing he does really well with it.

yeah me to, 7'. that's why i haven't pulled the trigger.

the phantom commercial DE package has an open or enclosed reflector option. the open is supposed to be better for lower ceilings. i just bought 4 but wont be using them for a few more weeks. ill let u know when i get them up and running

Yeah I just got a Genesis 30 for a great deal. I won't be using mine until for another few weeks also until these next couple rounds go through. From what I understand it needs to be 30 inches overy canopy. I just hope it don't overheat my room, the air cooled thousand watt does finE. So hopefully it will be ok. Keep me posted.

I know this is super old but I am wondering what foot print you are utilizing with the DE bulbs? You say (2) in a standard sized room. What size room is that and how much space do you have each light covering? I know they say 5X5 is reccomended but I'm trying to use two to cover a 6X6 area.

I know someone who sold equipment and they use Phantom DE for their commercial grow. There are some Chinese clones with the open and closed reflector setup on ebay or amazon for about $270 each

just ram the gavita on one wall and side light with it

how comes all these distances seem to go out the window when people start side lighting or growing vert all of a sudden people just start going by how the heat feels on their hands ?

Don't mean to change the topic or take away from your post but I've been looking every where can't seem to find an answer was wondering if anyone new how hot the air that is coming out of the other end of 8" raptor reflector 600-750w bulb running would be using a 8" fan to push air from room through it?

too bad they don't offer the 600 in a 120v .
