How do I find if my local tap water is suitable.

Im going into some beginner hydro and dont want to pay for the RO water. How do I go about testing my tap water to see if it will be suitable for hydro. I know it is local municipal water, not well. Should I let it sit open to dechlorinate? If so how long?

Ok got my blue lab ph and ppm pen today. I measured my tap water and the RO water I normally use for comparison.

RO Water PH 6.9
PPM 0

Tap Water PH 8.5
PPM 0

Is the tap water ok for hydro?

Yes.

How fortunate you are to have tap at 0ppm. Mine is crappy like 325 ppm.

I have RO water in the house from a faucet and still use municipal water for growing... Depending on contaminants found at testing sites, your town may dump extra chlorine in from time to time without notice so I recommend using treating it first with aquarium tap water conditioner.
