Medical Marijuana Users Suing Health Canada For Privacy Breach

personally I thinks it's bad to sue the government as the only real losers if patients win is the taxpayer. That 40000000 is going to come out of taxes. I feel they should be asking for a different type of resolution ie, fully instate growing rights to anyone with medical recommendation and abolish the need to register with a governing body therefore preventing the leak of personal information by the government again.
Yeah I'm aware of that but there's still the people looking for money which is what I have an issue with. The only losers are people like you and I. the only real winners are the lawyers since they're getting paid to sue and the government lawyers getting paid to defend. If the government looses they'll just slash funding on some programs or raise taxes to recoup the loss.
TBH I didn't even read your whole post because it's obvious you didn't read mine. For the last time I'm not talking about Goldstar. I'm talking about the privacy breach lawsuit which I think is the mistake because unlike Goldstar, there's actually a chance that the patients could "win". Sueing the government is really just suing yourself. Alternative resolution is the better course as it won't cost the taxpayers millions and I'm sure everyone would be happier with growing rights as opposed to a one time payment of few hundred dollars by the time the lawyers have their fees. I don't know about you but I wouldn't consider that doing nothing. Get HC out of the MMJ regulation racket and let patients with medical approval grow for themselves if they are able to.
i'M not getting pissy at anyone but when I keep saying it's about the privacy breach and not goldstar quit referring back to goldstar. I have nothing to say about Goldstar because it's only purpose is to get a number for how many people this truly affects. My opinion on the matter is just that, my opinion. And my opinion happens to be that sueing is usually a poor choice because most peopke don't stop and think who it really hurts. Just like when people sue over car accidents etc. the company never really pays because at the end of the day they just recoup their losses one way or another. I say stick it to them by finding a way to have MMJ removed from the control of HC and put back into the hands of the patients. Not by getting a few hundred bucks that in the long run will just cost more money paying the government legal fees and the 40 000 000 we have to pay back by losing government funding in some way or by having taxes raised.

So no one should sue the government because they don't care and tax payers will ultimately pay? Sound reasoning there. Goldstars is going isn't going to win? Lol again the decisions of the scoc thus far favor the patients not hc. We're not asking for anything crazy. Sure sound like we're gonna fail :( lol symptum has no sympathy for the people affected by the privacy breach. Good luck mmar people hope you get a nice size check eventually.

Forget the tax dollars. If they didnt decide to infringe on our charter they would have saved just as much. I have no mercy on this "tax dollars" arguement. I havent driven down a smooth road or had speedy service at any health care or government office. Fuck them, il get mine.

The Goldstars isn't about the money..it's a number to get their attention...think the other way around-if you lose your right to grow and have to pay an LP..do the math for the Goldstars...that's the amount you would pay the LP for your medicine. take away any of the math that talks about investment or about your garden. think grams per day at $15 each times how many years you hope to live to..I hope to live to 90. that's how much you will pay a LP "of your choice" for your meds for the rest of your life
my thought of a real "win" is complete repeal! we get to produce what we need when we need it without ANY hassle..that is the goal...not a payout

I'm not talking about Goldstar....I'm talking about the privacy breach lawsuit on behalf of every MMAR patient. And no I did not receive the letter. It took me many years to find a doc that would sign and I missed the MMAR cut off by a couple weeks. So, no don't have a basis to go into that suit but I was getting fucked by the MMPR until I took my health into my own hands.
by the way, i think this went off when you & I typed around the same time. you must have hit post while i was typing my post.

I called the Priv...comm..the day my letter came
I was told they did not have anything set up to accept the complaint yet..and I was told to file a complaint with Health Canada...
They suck....period.
The only recourse we have is tax withholding...at least until harpie is replaced....
It Is truly the only form of revolution we can actually accomplish...

whatever guys...This is exactly why I hardly come here anymore. A few of you have made it very unpleasant to post because a simple airing of opinion quickly turns into a bitch fest and a few people playing the victim card. Have fun with your lawsuit, we're all paying for it. I guess sueing without thinking of the consequences is part of our culture these days. One last thing though. Asking a lawyer if you should sue is like asking a car salesman if you need a anew car...
Sure....how presumptuous of you to state " suing without thinking of the consequences", you have no clue what we were / are thinking....you weren't put in this position.
What is part of the culture these days is the incessant need for individuals to voice their opinion on matters that they don't have a clear perspective of.

As for the lawyer.....you couldn't be more wrong. Obviously you have never walked this path either.
Our lawyer heard our claim, did research, had 3 meetings with us before taking the case.
Why?....Because they have to shell out 100k + with no guarantee of winning.

Think before you post.

unfortunately the only way you get the Governments attention is by lawsuit. they HAVE to take it serious.....if you try the Ombudsman, they basically sluff you off and give you a pat on the back.
that is really sad in a democratic country

I'm not with an LP actually. that seems to be your go to statement when anyone disagrees with you. everyone is either a wannabe, shill, lp lover etc. And I'm not telling anyone what to do. The real question is where do you get off telling me how to feel about the situation ? I know you like to think you're the big swinging dick around here even though your posts have little substance and are rife with misinformation, aggressive posturing and contempt for fellow board members but just because you have a well deserved hate on for the government doesn't make you any sort of authority on anything. if anything your mind is clouded with anger and you're letting your rage get the best of you. All I was doing was having an open dialogue with people about alternative forms of resolution and since my opinions don't align perfectly with yours you go on the offensive. Just face it, sueing the government does not teach them a lesson of any kind. Having a bottomless pit of tax money to draw from means they are not worried about paying out settlements. God knows they have no problem wasting millions on lawyer fees for a losing battles or prohibition propaganda.
"everyone is either a wannabe, shill, lp lover etc." ....what category do you fall into?

none, I'm self reliant. I was saying that according to Gmack420 everyone that doesn't agree with him falls into one of those catagories.

Ah, gottcha. ty.

I get a little testy when it comes to lawsuits.
It can be a very difficult and stressful experience when one decides to launch a lawsuit.
It almost seems unfair.
You are the injured party, yet to try and get compensation you have to put yourself in financial risk.
You can get a lawyer who will take the case with a percentage of the award, if you win. This is the most common way to do it because most people don't have the money to fund it themselves. It also insures the lawyer(s) are doing everything they can to win, if they don't win they lose a lot of money.
But....and it's a big but....
If you and your lawyer(s) lose the case, the company or person that you have sued can come after YOU, not your lawyer, for the court costs.

Dealing with a catastrophic injury, as well as having that thought of possibly going bankrupt if the case is lost is very very stressful.
