I have a smalll 2x2.5x7 tent. I want to quiet my 4 inch inline fan by venting it up into the attic. How do I accomplish this properly? Should I just cut a hole in the ceiling, and run ducting up and out the attic gable. I really want to quiet things down as well (fan), I though of installing fan itself up in the attic to reduce sound? Dont want to have to add muffler. Suggestions appreciated.
the simplest way is what u were talking about make a hole for the ducting running tho the attic to one of the over hangs then venting it out that to the outside
as for putting the fan in the attic that is not a smart idea the fan itself has a thermal cut off point when it gets to a temp of 130/140 a senor inside of it will cut the power to the unit so it does not over heat and cause fires or break down
the easiest way to set it up so does not make as much sound
1 when u mount it use some rubber so the vibrations are not transferred to the wall/stud.....little less noise
2 u need 3 things
a a crappy foam bed topper (egg crate type)
b a thermometer with a wired senor
c a box that u can pack the foam topper in then place it over the fan .........the wired senors goes directly on the fan so u can keep a eye on the temp
