LET'S TALK DYNA GRO NUTES

I wanted to create a thread that revolves around DYNA GRO. I've used nothing else and see all these other brands being talked about. I've had my struggles finding which one to use and how much. I'm getting better each grow and I know I needed help. Thankfully there was a member that was happy to help me. So, I'd like to be able to pass it on if I can. I'm currently using foliage pro, pro tekt, and bloom. I still have grow but recently switch to foliage pro. I dropped cal mag months ago and the plants haven't missed it. I also use the KLN for rooting my cuttings. I started with clonex gel but it's much easier to drench the soil and the results are the same.

For veg I use
2.5 ml/gal pro tek
3 ml/gal foliage pro
It comes out to be 300 PPM. That's my base full strength nutrient solution and I use this for EVERYTHING. For younger plants I dilute down to whatever PPM I choose. But generally I start between 60-80 PPM after the 3rd week for a seedling or a few days after cuttings really start taking hold. Then I dilute it less and less until it reaches the full strength of 300. When I flip to flower I'll add more foliage pro to bring the PPM up to 400 PPM. I'll use that until stretching has come to a stop (generally 2 weeks). At this point I will water once at half strength (this could be considered a flush) From there instead of raising the PPM from my base to 400 with foliage pro I'll raise it with bloom instead. I'll continue with that for the next 2 weeks. Now at this point it's about 4.5 weeks in to flowering and I will raise my base solution to 500 PPM by adding 100 PPM more of foliage pro and bloom. And I'll use that solution to the end. In general I don't flush. (to me a flush is 0 PPM) But I have extra large 16" saucers under each 5 gallon pot and I make sure there is enough run off each watering to fill those saucers.

When I started I used grow only during veg and bloom only in flower. I've found that bloom doesn't provide enough N. I also used mag pro but I've dropped it and the plants haven't missed it one bit. I worried about run off making a mess. So I would water through the top with just enough that it wouldn't run out the bottom. Then I would fill up the smaller saucers I had (they were 12 inch)and allowed it to wick up from the bottom. When I did this I did water every 3rd or 4th time with RO water. But I've since dropped that method and now believe the best suggestion you could give and beginner is to make sure there is plenty of run off. I've gone so far to the opposite direction from where I started now I keep a small shop vac handy just in case water starts to overflow my saucers.

One problem I have had is fungus gnat. But for the last couple of months I've been using mosquito bits. I put about a teaspoon and a half on the top of each 5 gallon pot and I haven't seen one since. So I'm now adding it to the top of every pot I have from now on. I'd suggest them to anyone. The first method I used was azamax and sure it worked but these bits are much easier to put on as well as cheaper. For the first couple of years fungus gnats is all I've had to deal with. But I've recently been dealing with spider mites and they aren't as easy to take care of. So I'm now going to be proactive and start a regime of preventive maintenance. I think it's going to be the bits on the soil and spraying the plants with azamax every 4 weeks or so. And topping it off with a fogger at the end of weeks 2&4.

did you use the base every watering or once a week?

I started using it last fall and have been impressed with the results.

First grow was a Dark Devil auto that my wife likes to keep on hand. With that particular strain we were getting about two ounces off each plant when I was using Fox Farm before. When I used Dyna-Grow the yield was about 14 grams more. All the environmental factors were the same. I can't say for sure that the added yield was because of DG because I also fed a few times with compost teas, which I used before too.

I have Foliage Pro, Pro-tekt, bloom (hardly use it) and Mag-Pro (hardly use it) grown in seven gallon smart pots with around a 50/50 mix of Fox Farm Ocean Forest and Happy Frog.
