HID Lighting- 400w or 600w SOG??

Hey all.

Just wanted to hear from folks who have used 400 & 600 watt HPS, and results in comparison.
I've always used 600w, and got nice production, but space is a concern this time around, so as far as heat issues/ ventilation, i'm thinking of going with a 400.

My flowering unit is roughly 3'x3', and im in veg right now, LST for SOG style crop.

Is 400w gonna cut it?

How many plants would you be able to do with that setup? Not maximum, but reasonable amount. I want a flower room with 400w Hps. Cfl for veg.

i run a 400w hps in 3x3 and its fine and cool with 6" extractor and c/f with a intake

Thinking about it me and my buddy ran an SOG with 12 clones in a similar sized space and pulled about a Q/P with a 400w metal halide. Not ideal and I was newer to the game then so i'm sure with an exhaust and a 400HPS it'll be good.

Damn 12 plants. So I'm good with 3. Haha. I want them to be happy and plenty of space for them with 3 Dwc buckets. How much would you think my yield would be with 3 feminized 500g/m2 indoors?

Follow this rule of thumb. 1 plant/ 1 sqft or 1 plants/ 2 sqft. Is most commonly used.
So if you have a 3x3=9 sqft. So you can grow between 4-9 plants maximum.
A 400 watt HID light covers a primary growing area of 5'x5' & the supplemental growing area of 8'x8'. So a 400 watt is perfect for your 3'x3'.
