Rock and roll, looks awesome, can you set these up with some sort of pump so it's like watering out of a garden hose but using your rain barrel water?

Any good sources on the containers? I believe I've seen some like this at the local farm store but they were rather pricey.

Do you have screen on those if not I would recommend it to stop mosquito larvae from entering as well as bugs and leaves etc from room

I bought these in Lexington Kentucky. It is a prepper, survivalist, container store. They sell the fittings for a water hose. I have to find or build a pump. I thought about putting an air hose fitting on the lid. Screw the lid on and use compressor to pressurize it.

It was a all day trip to drive and get them. They only cost $105.00 a piece.

That's where I got them. Just google "ibc food grade tote and your state".
That's how I found them.

That was temporary to catch the coming rain. I had the gutter parts laying around.

The lids have a smaller screw in plug. I will run PVC from the gutter to the lids and tread a PVC fitting in the lid. It will be sealed when done. I think I will paint them to keep sun from getting to the water.

I set every thing out when no chance of frost. Most everything will tolerate down to low 40's at night. Except maybe tomatoes. Oh an corn doesn't like cold, it locks out N. I had a small 12x12 green house I used.

That is awesome. I have been adding barrels around and have considered a large 400 gallon tank. I was concerned with the water going stale if not used. Would draining say 1/2 the water just before it rains be a good idea or is it just paranoid thinking on my part.
Either way... Kudos for your setup, looks fantastic. Are you planning on piping irrigation, I ask because the wife got a great big smile when I mentioned a big tank and said if I could manage gravity irrigation it would be better for HER and the plants....... Funny, I do the hand watering anyway.

I plan to use air to pressurize or a DC pump run on a battery and solar panel.

Not true. It rained lightly on and off and barely wet the garden and it filled both tanks 1/4 of the way up. It is also for the occasional dry spell. I grow flowers to. And the rain water is good for cannabis.
I hear ya. I'm just jelly- and I also live in Colorado where it's illegal to capture rainwater that lands on your own property...

My wife laughs because I'm cheap. I cut some pool sand filters apart and used them for flowers.

And some flower beds.

DSC01035.JPG I am using a small pump on one barrel for the hanging plants on the porch and front flowerbeds but I don't have one big enough for the garden. It would take forever. I have a small barrel for steeping teas next to my new planting table and can envision the big tank sitting next to it. Only 20 foot from the garden, Gravity should work. Tomatoes, Peppers, Cucumbers, Snap peas, Greenbeans. Radishes, carrots, and several kinds of lettuce are all in. Pardon the woorly copters, Not feeling up to snuff so I haven't hoed lately. Tomatoes in the trellis buckets. Still have a few tomato plants in the cold frame if anyone needs any.
