that's a good question-how do you do mandatory voting? i think if there were better candidates..there'd be more voters.
i think when Obama ran the first time, they had an unbelievable turnout..his second term wasn't so great but that shows me that Canadians don't like who's running so they don't bother.
i also agree that if you don't vote-don't criticize. you had your chance!
I was thinking of the obama example too but im not he is the best to use for this. He was the easy vote because bush jr was sooo bad. He came in preaching tons of change but has fizzled out because even he has to go through so many channels to make change.
I think it should be time to perhaps look past any one person being in control anyway. In this digital age everything could be voted on in minutes

Absolutely...people should be made to vote...you can always spoil your ballot in the box if you want, but people who don't vote are the first to bitch...did you say you snapped last week? Hmmph
I disagree. Voter apathy is a problem, but I don't think mandatory voting is the answer. I vote in EVERY federal election, only some provincial elections and I have never voted municipally. I don't like being told I HAVE to do anything and I'm not alone, so there would be mass revolt. Then there is the constitution that would uphold my right not to vote. It would require a reopening of the constitution and that isn't going to happen any time soon. I'm more for changing the way we vote and educating youth on the process. We need electronic voting. There is absolutely no reason we cannot vote from home. We file our taxes online, we apply for benefits online, etc. why can we not vote online? It would neuter Steve's robocalls. Get the young people invested or at least remotely interested in politics. Lower the voting age to 16 or 17 and allow kids to get involved in their future. Schools should be bringing in speakers and running mock elections so they understand the process. My kids had no clue and no interest but they are voting for the first time. My youngest in Alberta voted for the first time last week. He called all excited because he voted NDP and they won! It was pretty cool to finally see some interest.

22 countries have mandatory voting including Australia and Mexico...if you don't vote you can be fined or given community service...so if you don't want to pick up,garbage on the side of the road, vote.

Some would argue voting is picking garbage off the side of the road lol
I vote anyway but i really dont think forcing people to do anything is the way to make positive change.

Instead give them something worthwhile to vote on besides who we are gonna hate for the next four years
