Alright.
FISA,
S.2248
Title: An original bill to amend the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978, to modernize and streamline the provisions of that Act, and for other purposes. Obama's vote? Yay. What does a yay vote mean? Ostensibly, that he's "tough on terrorism". In practice? It is a further erosion of civil rights, such as the right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure.
This is particularly disturbing because the man allegedly used to
teach constitutional law. Then, after promising to repeal the Patriot Act, instead helped keep it in place by voting for P.A. II (as it's become known) and FISA, effectively pisses all over it. (Try factcheck.org for more).
What does he think of decriminalization or even legalization of mj? Well, on one hand he said he'd support decriminalization. Then, when his campaign realized that could be a political career killer, changed his stance. He's in control of his campaign managers and advisors, how about standing by your words, Mr. Obama? If you look at his page on
OnTheIssues.org, he doesn't even ADDRESS decriminalization. At least McCain has the balls to do so, directly. He believes that drug use is IMMORAL. Yet he sneaks cigarettes with reporters..? Does he not use alcohol? Hypocrit.
He's pro-death penalty. I don't know how most others feel, I feel it's atrocious and should be abolished (like the IRS).
He feels we were "distracted" by Iraq, yet he continues to vote for MORE war funding, and his plan for the future is not to remove troops from the Middle East, but to shift them to Afghanistan.
Go here:
Barack Obama on the Issues Then be absolutely sure to check his votes. That's where the rubber really meets the road.
That's where you find out where a given politician is standing.
