LEC - Light-Emitting Ceramic

Honestly, I only use LED because I'm a technophile, they're more modular, HID's are inconvenient to work with,. In my opinion. ROI on electricity isn't gonna happen for a few decades due to the low price of power here. Plus, the results are undeniable, just look at all the marvelous examples done under DIY led.

Right now I'm trying to develop a IP65 rated, 200w LED lamp. Just because... I have more 'creative license' with LED than with HID. To me, that's worth the premium price that quality parts command. YMMV.

So if I'm spending a couple thousand, what can I expect to get if I'm doing a serious DIY?
Just a bright white light with a yellowish tinge. 2.4uMol/J vs 1.9 of DE. I've been getting great results so far with the 49% efficient one (still on first run using that build). About a pound.. lol hard to make any claims other than what i can do with it. I've only finished a complete run with the 40% efficient build (vero 18 at 700mA) so far.

Well, Growers House is having a pretty sweet deal on these and were prompt and succulent in their responses so I will be ordering one of the Sun Systems tonight...with the price-less than 450USD, I can get this and upgrade to a better LED down the road but I will be able to cover AT LEAsT 8 sq feet for 1/2 the price of LED, and almost 1/2 the amperage of HPS with the ability to aim for 1 GPW

Nice, you won't regret the purchase, my final decision to initially go with them came down to much the same thing, I have some COBs and will add/mix those in down the road. In the meantime, nothing to complain about ;)

You can design a lamp for low heat, high output or in between depending on what will benefit you most. I agree the return on investment would take ages if you just look at electric consumption of the lamp itself and electricity is cheap BUT naysayers should consider the implications of less heat to get the same job done. For me that is huge. I had a pair of 600W HPS in each tent and my ventilation fans cranking so hard the tent wanted to collapse. During the warm season I would have to shut one of the lights down during the day and run AC. There was no way to increase my yield by adding more light unless I modified the building for more ventiliation.

Switched to LED, quality increased, yields increased dramatically, ventilation fans now set on low so I can hear myself think. Almost never need AC in the summer. Lower power bill is a nice bonus but with more jars filled the lamp paid for itself in days/weeks.

All that said, I think it is great that people are getting better results with CMH than the old 600 HPS I was using.

nice! I've had awesome experiences with growers house, I even replied to an email from them to let them know. as groerr said, you won't regret it.
I do think in a lot of scenarios it's a good idea to use some LED side lighting, just to make sure to get the full canopy.

This is why I can't stand RIU sometimes, so many trolls....seriously! Do some freaking research. Thank you to @rollitup for introducing this thread. @genuity and @GroErr have these lights and are doing VERY well, with almost half the wattage used and less heat. I believe @dbkick has some of these lights as well.

If people would do research, there is a HUGE thread on ICMAG about this topic, with several commercial growers/at home growers using them with amazing results.

420mag just started a topic recently about it.

THCfarmer has many members and a long thread about it as well. This tech seems legit, basically a HPS that is flower spectrum and therefor 4-60% more efficient....it IS NOT a regular CMH bulb y'all, it's a brand new tech.

I was hoping there would be some wholesale discounts or something in this thread lol.

Cliff Notes from my research/post from documented sources:
More resinous buds
Better spread than LED
40-60% more efficient than HPS
Plants finish 1-2 weeks early, and i have seen several sources say this is true coming from LeD background which is already quicker!
Half the wattage of HPS
Ability to grow over 1.3 GPW
5-10 degree Fahrenheit than hotter thanLED=way cooler than your HPS
Cheaper $ than LED
Lower cost than HPS; these run about 3-4 amps so about half the power?

Someone get some of these wholesale for real, I will take a couple!
Im going to do my own research in a bit but so far you got me sold. got a link by any chance? just got my tax return bongsmilie

Growers house has the 860cmh from DNA on their site now. Not much more $ than all the 315's relatively. Needs a reflector...but those bulbs are what's up, standalone not supplemental.
Link to the page? Do they recommend a ballast? I wasn't impressed with mine, but I was running it on an old magnetic thousand watt ballast for MH lamps.

Any idea on how efficient the LEC fixtures can be?

Just wondering if COBS truly are the best indoor lighting application, with or without CREE products, at this time, regardless of cost.
