Worse than pruning?

I was trying to figure out what to do with these HUGE fan leaves on the TS. I wasn't going to cut them, and tucking wasn't helping much. I took some hemp string and tied the fan leaves in a "taco" like shape. Will this hurt anything? Is it better/worse than pruning? Only stand-alone fan leaves were tied. If the fan leaf had subnodes on it, I left it alone.

I like your sense of humor ayron ...Not just space...the fan leaves are massive and really hard for light to penetrate. Ok, so it sounds bad when I said, "tying into tacos..."lol but it's all I could think of to describe it. And I didn't tie all the fan leaves down. Just about 6 big fans that were stand alone.

They are not blocking light, they are absorbing it creating energy for the plant. At least they were before you hog tied them.

Well...the reason I said better than defoliating is cuz the plant can at least still use the leaves as reservoirs when you tie them into tacos, versus being cut off and completely useless lmao. Light penetrates through leaves to an extent, so they can be upside down, backwards, w.e and still do photosynthesis, but I wouldn't tie them like that. If anything, LST branches to the side for more penetration...or maybe add side lighting...are you worried about larfy / fluffy shit developing below the canopy?

Be on the lookout for perspiration to accumulate where the leaves are overlapping. If you don't evaporate that water off the surface of the leaf then you're asking for problems...

The fan leaves that I hog tied (lmao) are middle to lower middle of the stem with no other nodes, just a big ol stem coming off the main stem and a big ol fan leaf at the end of it. Everything under the big ol fan leaf is really scraggly. I've noticed these bud sited trying to reach light but can get through the moppiness of the plant. I didn't lst (tie down) any of the leaves initially and now the stems (especially with the big fan leaves on them) are super rigid. I figured "loosely" "enchilada-ing" these big ol fan leaves would give the lower level bud sites a chance to creep up to the lights. What do these big fan leaves provide? If I'm supplementing with nutes light and an ideal environment will the fan leaves still be needed as much. I would understand the up-in-arm-edness if I were growing these outside in a non controlled environment, but is it really a big deal when growing indoors? Maybe I'm just a little naïve and understudied.

Also, apparently (when searching the interweb) there are other growers that have done this in the past with good results... And here I thought I was a pioneer!
I plan on leaving the taco strings on for a few more days and see how she reacts.

I'll tell you how it will react it will gather moisture and no light and you will end up with mildew. Trust me you don't want to fight that fight. Another thing to consider is that the way you have them tied up you won't see the mildew until it is real bad. Don't be afraid to take a few fan leafs off to allow light penetration just don't go crazy.
