Hi everyone,
reading every page of these posts got me interested in starting to grow. What i am looking to do is get a small set up just for personal and friend use. i have a house that i share with some of my buddies, but i dont want anything to big. I like the idea of using the AG because it sounds easy and a small set up. I am only looking to get hopefully 2oz out of this. i want to keep my plants small but dense, i was thinking of going with white rino from nirvana. Anything will help i want to know if this is even possible i really just want some kill home growns to blaze

These are some pics of my AG grow after Day 13 from seed, and Day 20. You can see the dramatic difference. I'm growing Misty, which I think is a good short, bushy strain for the AG. After they sprouted, I switched out the AG light for a 400W MH/HPS. Using salad greens setting and Fox Farm nutes. I have 4 plants: 2 are doing very well, 1 pretty well, and 1 not so good. I'm going to start flowering soon...

Are you putting tape over the empty grow holes to cut down on evaporation loss? What seed pods are you using? Are they the master garden pods?

Someone else in this thread recommended covering the unused holes to prevent bacteria or anything else from getting into the resevoir. Yes, these are the AG pods, but I took off the paper tops, not realizing that I should have left them on. They seem to be doing fine though. I'm thinking that I'm might have to transfer two of the plants to different holes to allow more space, but am nervous about doing that b/c the roots are so long. Has anyone moved the plants just before flowering?

yeah i moved them around fairly regular due to the way my set up was, and when i found out i only had 1 female i moved her in the middle. Make sure you get them where you want them cause soon you wont be able to move them cause the roots will be too much

My plants age growing out not up. The leaves are actually starting to rest on the deck of the unit. I guess in some ways thats good. I still havent raised the hood of the unit and ther plants are still a couple of inches below the lights. Tomorrow I'm going to drain it and add one tablespoon of big grow to weaken the solution. With the sad look of the number one plant I'm beginning to think I have too much nutes.
When do you think I should start to flower? When I do that do I go to the 12/12 phase?

Definite over nute on the first plant. In AG do the plants share the reservoir? If they do then there isn't much you are going to be able to do with the first plant. I'd just kill it. If you try to correct the nutes in the reservoir for one plant then the others may suffer for it.

The other plants seem fine with the nute regimen you have in place. To change this to benefit one plant could cause you problems with the other two.

The only other thing I can suggest is during the dark period you foliar feed the plant with plain, ph'ed water. Don't do this just before you turn the lights on, best to do it just after you turn them off.

You may still end up killing the plant about half way through flower, but you never know.

As most of us have found, there always seems to be one plant in the AG that does not grow as well, or sometimes yellows more, than the others. I wouldn't change what you are doing. And I would start flowering soon.

Actually if you kill it before you start flower, and then give the other 2 an extra week of veg'. You will get a more bountiful yield. Pot space matters as to how big your plants will get. Bigger plants equals more bud. To use the aerogarden most effectively it would be best to grow one plant beneath a mh or hps, both if you've got it.

If you are going to totally replace the lights on the AeroGarden, wouldn't you be better off just buying an aeroponic unit that doesn't come with lights, like the Rainforest 36 ($95) or 66 ($250)? Both of these units could support six plants in a SOG or ScrOG instead of just one plant, and the 36 model is $55 less than the AeroGarden? You'd probably have to start the flowering small (10-12") with the 36 model, but you have to do that anyway with the AG from what I read? Why not grow 6 plants for less than the price of only one plant?

I'm not trying to be an ass here, and perhaps there are things I don't understand that would make the AG better (I'm new to the hobby), but it would seem on paper at least that this could be a superior alternative to the AG if you were going to replace the AG's lights anyway?

The AG seems to sit well with noob's. For some reason (I've never seen one) they must be easy to maintain. These aero units' nozzles (unless you buy expensive) tend to clog up with built-up salts from the nutes. This can kill your plants within hours.

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with you. I prefer dwc myself. A nice hybrid between hydro and aero IMO.

Yes, if you feel comfy with the AG. Remove the light and get a bigger one to grow one decent-sized plant. You should be able to manage 3oz with some decent light and just one plant. Depends though, later on you could grow from clones and do SOG, maybe a short 5 day veg then bang 6-8 into flower. See what works best for you.

No one thinks you are being an ass. Well intentioned advice is always deeply appreciated. I started with and AG as it was a gift. With all I have learned on this web site I very possibly would have started with something different. Be that as it may I started withe the AG and for the time being I'm committed to it. If I can get one female through the process it will satisfy my needs I don't need a lot (we are dealing with a glaucoma situation here ). Speed (rapidity of growth) is good here. I thing the AG will perform well if the expectations are not too high.

Yeah, you use mh for veg (min 400w) and I'd say get a 600W HPS for flower. You will have to remove the light hood from your AG, maybe use it for side lighting or you could use it for your future clones. If you can only get 1 light it's up to you whether you choose MH or HPS as both are ok throughout both stages of growth. Me I prefer mh if I had to choose one, but don't listen to me... most on this site would advise you to use HPS.

I used the AG lights to sprout (until about Day 10 from seed). Then I switched it out for a combo 400W MH/HPS. This is the one I got: eBay: 400 watt SWITCHABLE GROW LIGHT w HPS Sodium + MH Halide (item 180106561927 end time May-03-07 21:30:00 PDT)

And skunkushhybrid is right: The Aerogarden is perfect for new growers (like me) who want to grow a relatively small amount of weed easily and in a quick amount of time.

Having problems with two plants growing in my ag. Their about 5 weeks old and all fan leaves are drooping. Secound time this happen, the first time it happen i just change the water and everything was back to normal. But it's happening agin. Just drooping no yellowing. Whats going on? I think its too much water. So i dump some out. set on herb/setting
