Air Intake Filter?

So I built my own tent out of PVC and Panda Film, I now need to get ventilation down. I have two 720 CFM fans that I intend to place outside of my windows, however there is a decent amount of debris outside I don't want sucked in. I have two 8'' 720 CFM fans and I have been having some difficulty finding a decent inexpensive filter. I keep finding carbon filters, which If I am not mistaken is predominately for smell? I'm looking for something to just monitor incoming air quality. Also, I'll have to make holes in my tent in order to run the 8'' ducting in, should I get some sort of something to put around the holes or create 8 in holes or just run the ducting straight in? I also have air cooled hoods, would it be okay to have the ducting intake run through the air cooled hoods, and then stop at the final hood exit so air spills into the tent, and then attach seperate ducting to the bottom of my tent as the exhaust to suck air out?


Any help/links to 8 inch inline intake filters would be hugely appreciated for this novice!

720 cfm is a lot of power to suck in air. Suck a cat right off the ground man...lol

I wonder, first, how big is the room? That 720 would be too big for just fresh air intake. You might end up blowing it up like a balloon...

Are they both for cooling the lights?

You can get furnace filter in a bag and what i did with that was tape it over a 4" vent thing and then stuffed some in the vent tosuck in air...works well....

So its going to be set up as an active system one intake and one exhaust. One 720 pulling air in and one pushing air out. I'm looking for a filter to filter out debris for the intake side of the system.

A furnace filter in a bag??

Ya...it is furnace filter material...probably 36" square, folded up in a flat bag. Get a 8" x 8 to 10" piece of round ducting and cut the filter to fit around one end of it. Tape it down. Then cut 3 or 4 8" circles and stuff them down one end. Fix that into a window opening and attach you ducting and run it in.

I would push the air in....so intake outlet, ducting, fan, ducting into the tent.

And pull the air out...so ducting, hoods, ducting, fan, and ducting out of the tent...

Youll end up with some negative pressure, but thats okay as long as it isnt too much

Or you could spend a lot of money either of the other two suggestions.... of which both arent very stealth...

It is better to have fan at the exit not the entrance IMO. Centrifugal fans suck air through ducting much better than they push it. Just my 2 cents, and mushroom filter is what i have used in the past.

i think with an adequate passive air intake a 720 cfm fan can cool your tent. I have cooled 5x 1000w's with 1 8" vortex fan.

Hey thanks everyone for all the responses!!! I think I'll likely go with the Hepa filter,

As I've already bought the two fans intended for active this is the way I'll be going.

I was curious though, I've seen some sort of coupling put into place, I don't want to just shove the 8 in tube through the panda film and tape around it, is there some sort of 8 inch metal port thing I could purchase for this?

just build one ........it is really simple

for your size u can modify the box size and upgrade the filter size to one of the filters they use in a centeral ac system .........u just want to get lvl 7 or higher filters ( lvl 10 is hospital grade)

if u want make it out of wood and add a catch inside to hold the filter while u seal it off with duct tape

Thought about building an intake box, but space and time were short so I opted for an off the shelf solution. After calculating my time and parts it was a wash for me and I'm happy with the pfresh intake. :lol:
