I read somewhere that it's better to let your plant develop a good root system in a smaller container then transplant it into a larger one, then into another one, depending on how big you want the plant. It makes sense to me, that if you do that, the roots will take up more surface area quicker than if you start in a large container.

I should experiment with that sometime, maybe I will with a couple of clones sometime. If I can figure out how to clone! Hehe!

But I used solo cups, then 1galon bag, then 3 gallon bag, and I have some 5 gallon bags too, but I probably won't end up using them. You can get them all on amazon really cheap, you can reuse them, and I like them more than pots because the bags or more tall than wide, so you can put the plant's closer together if you need to. Plus it's super easy to LST with pipe cleaners and the bags because you can just bend the pipe cleaner and stick it right into the bags!

I think i'll wait just a few more days to flip instead of a week and a half, I really don't want them to get too big, if only I had a bigger closet door! UGH! lol. Thanks Lucifder.

Glad I found this thread, I was wondering something similar. The clones I bought came in 4" pots (you could see the rock wool stuck in the center). Within a week the roots were poking out the bottoms, so I transplanted them to 2 gallon pots(? some pots are numbered, some are in inches, some referenced in gallons, so I'm guessing), and soon (end of week 4) I'll be putting them in 5 gallon pots for the remainder of the run. I was wondering/worrying if all the moving did more harm than good.

Obviously some of the stress factor has to do with the care I take in the actual transplant, but it sounds like there are benefits to periodically giving them fresh soil. That said, I think next time they'll go straight into bigger pots, reason being if I LST them now I have to un-tie and re-tie them all, and I think all of that would be more stressful for it than the rest of the act of transplanting. I'm actually kind of rushing the transplant schedule because I want to LST them more aggressively and it seems like doing/undoing/redoing that opens up a lot of room for accidentally injuring the plants.

Update: Turned part of my room into a grow room, waaaay more room, got a new light too. This girl just has to do some ventilation before work tomorrow, and everything will be good! After I cut a hole in the ceiling lol! Hard work, but hopefully it is going to pay off. I'm so excited to see how this turns out!!! Day 6 flowering, and all are looking pretty freaking perfect! The clones are kinda droopy... but alive, so I'm just gonna keep them in there and see what happens.

It's too late right now, but i'll post some pics of my little girls I started by seed tomorrow, i just transplanted them into 1 gallon bags

What are your temps? The light on the third pic looks a little too close or is it could be just me

Well the light on the 3rd pic is just 400 watt and isn't getting hot at all. The ventilation seems fine with my industrial fan. Should I pick up some cal mag at the store today. Looks like I'm going to need to start watering once a week now since they are getting so big.

might just be too dry .... less water more often might be something to consider..... the top in that second pic looks all wrong w the skinny leaves and the way theyre folding under.... they look fat between the veins... twisting.... they should be flat ........

when ive seen em look like that its always been because the pot was full..... dry.... hot....

tea made w honey rather than bsm and a double dose of liquid seaweed is what I would do...... maybe about four pieces of psg......... or whatever

what happened to the clones?..... I took clones the day after you did and put em in six in squares yesterday....

Yeah i'm not really sure guys. High is 82 low is 65. I make sure the ph of my runoff on all of my plants is a steady 6.5. I don't water until the pots are really light and the leaves just start to look a little bit droopy. Not sure why the leaves are doing that on the tops, I just ferted one of them for the first time throughout the whole grow with 1/4 dose of high phosphorous nutes. Maybe that cal mag might make a difference the next time I water.

My new girls are looking great, and the clones, only 8 of them made it, and I'm not sure if they are going to live either, they look fine after the transplant, but no new growth really, probably take some time i'm sure, still learning.

This girl needs a little nap, then i'll take some pics of my new gen girls and my clones so you can see.

Alright here are some more pics. Put in the air conditioner and blacked everything out. Took some pics while the HPS lights were off for a little bit. Plus here are some pics of my little girls for my next gen, and the clones in the solo cups that I have that are still alive for the time being.

With my next gen, This time I super-cropped them, then tied them down for the LST, to see if that makes a difference. Maybe when the time comes I will top them, and clone all of the tops, then just watch them all branch out, not sure yet, I'll decide when the time comes. I'm a big girl! lol!
