Are you seriously complaining because the prices were lowered for everyone? Would you feel better if everyone had to pay more, except for you? Would you feel better if the prices were raised back up, just so it can be lowered again as a discount, just for you?
You do realize there are many other places to buy LEDs from if you do not like how A51 does things, correct?
I don't agree with your reasoning. Apparently he had planned to give something akin to a volume discount to those who buy more lights over time. Later he decided it wasn't worth the trouble of keeping track of purchase history (or people sharing their discount codes), and just gives his rock-bottom price to everyone. When I was about to order my SECOND light from him, I asked him to clarify the price AFTER the advertised discount. He told me that he discontinued that discount and, instead, lowered the prices all-around. -news to me!
I'm with you on all that. I've grown great plants with 3 year old Chinese crap before so I'll just keep looking. I do like those Amazon reviews for Platinum LED and I'm sure they're an improvement over what I use now.As I ALREADY explained…NOT just me, but EVERYONE who qualifies as a return customer, should receive the extra discount that was advertised. So, no…not just me.
NEW, first-time customers, shouldn't expect an additional discount because it wasn't advertised on the website. But previous customers, INCLUDING (but not limited to) myself, should receive the discount that was advertised at the time we made the purchase, regardless of however he wants to lower his prices, in general.
And, the attitude of "If you don't like it, then buy somewhere else." indicates a low-brow, "street" way of doing business, in my opinion. It's not the type of attitude that makes me feel as if my initial purchase meant anything at all to the company.
Yeah, I realize there are lots of places that sell LEDs. I researched them before I made my initial purchase from Area 51. And I based my choice to buy from A51 on several factors -not the least of which was the returning customer discount and the warranty. But I had no idea, at the time, that the discount would be pulled before I could make a second order. Maybe the warranty will change next…? I don't know…but I now see that it could. It's just sketchy. That's all.
So, now, instead of purchasing second A51 light, I will go elsewhere. I'm pretty sure it won't make any difference to them.
Platinum is a name-rip off of AdvancedLED. They use the name Advanced, and the same images Advanced uses. It's obvious they're trying to ride on Advanced's reputation.I'm with you on all that. Yes, I see what he did. And, yes, I'd be getting a discount, but not a discount that rewards my initial purchase from him (which was full-price at the time). And that's what was advertised at the time, so it should be honored -regardless of how low he makes his general pricing, after the fact. I know it doesn't matter to him or anyone else what happens. I'm just relating a disappointing experience I had with the company's business practices -not with the product. The product is great. But, I'll be talking my business elsewhere, based upon my experience. That's the kind of customer I am, I guess!I don't agree with your reasoning. If you want him to honor the previous "buy another, get a discount" then you should be willing for him to charge you the previous price that was based upon.
You're getting the discount. You're just not happy everyone else is getting it. Most retailers would give you something just to make you feel validated. Jeff is more inclined to let you go elsewhere because he'd rather have customers who don't require a lot of maintenance. Right or wrong, that's the way it is. I'd encourage you to choose which customer you want to be and take the appropriate steps. Belaboring the point won't change this reality.
Now you're putting out bogus info. Right on their website it said Bridgelux.Platinum is a name-rip off of AdvancedLED. They use the name Advanced, and the same images Advanced uses. It's obvious they're trying to ride on Advanced's reputation.
The last time I looked, Platinum didn't disclose the diodes they use. I would expect them to be epi-whatever.
I hope you'll be happier with a company that engages in deceptive practices and uses lower-quality parts. (May want to re-think your priorities.).
Here you go and once again, I don't have anything in it other than I'm in the market for a new light.Platinum is a name-rip off of AdvancedLED. They use the name Advanced, and the same images Advanced uses. It's obvious they're trying to ride on Advanced's reputation.

It's a matter of perspective, isn't it? You bought a light at full price like everyone else did. You now get another light at a discount like everyone else did. It's just that everyone gets the discount now.but not a discount that rewards my initial purchase from him (which was full-price at the time).
The only thing I've seen on Platinum's web site is "Platinum Series LED Lights use only top quality 3w high output LEDs from makers such as US made Bridgelux and Epistar."Now you're putting out bogus info. Right on their website it said Bridgelux.
I'm just telling you what it says. I'm not an expert hence why I'm researching. I don't get why you guys are so quick to bash everyone one except Area 51. Nobody else is allowed to make a light worth a fuck? The only thing I've seen on Platinum's web site is "Platinum Series LED Lights use only top quality 3w high output LEDs from makers such as US made Bridgelux and Epistar."
That doesn't say what you say it does. If they can't specifically say what diodes they use, I'd assume they're using the lowest-quality diode if they have to list it among the "such as" diodes.
If you want to trust a company that overtly rips off the name and image of a reputable LED brand that uses Cree diodes, that's your choice. But, it doesn't change the fact that PlatinumLED says:Scroll down and you will see where it's says Bridgelux made in America.
This double-talk is common among LED sellers. HydroGrowLED has a reputation like Platinum's. They use a "LED Basics" page to talk about Osrams, giving the impression they use Osram. But, nowhere on their site do they say they use Osrams.Platinum Series LED Lights use only top quality 3w high output LEDs from makers such as US made Bridgelux and Epistar
