I have had the pleasure of smoking, vaporizing and eating brownies made with Durga Mata II CBD, a high CBD strain of medical cannabis. It's a very different experience from other high THC strains of herb. These genetics are from Paradise Seeds and the plant is reported to have about 8.5% CBD and only 7% THC. From what I've read that makes it one of the top 10 most CBD-rich strains on the market today, and therefore an excellent medicinal choice for cannbis bred more for CBD than THC.
I've smoked good herb for about twenty years now and have tried many different strains, from regular Northern Lights and BC Bud "street weed" to a bunch of different boutique strains mostly from the Greenhouse Seed Company, including ones that take forever to grow like the outrageous Hawaiian Snow, which is a pure-looking sativa that won Cannabis Cup in 2003. For this review I'd like to compare that one to the medicinal Durga Mata II CBD. Both were grown from seed organically.
With Hawaiian Snow's high THC content, I get high quickly and don't need very much to get blasted. Even just a single puff from a marble pipe makes me a little giddy. My wife notices me acting different with just one puff of Hawaiian Snow! That has always bugged me as occassionally she gives me a hard time about it. Hawaiian Snow is very strong with about 23% THC and 0.17% CBD. It's the opposite end of the spectrum from the Durga Mata II CBD that has only 7% THC and 8.5% CBD.
In comparison, my high CBD strain gives me a very mild high when smoked, and it's a uniquely different buzz with unexpected clarity. It's great to be able to vaporize it and still be able work throughout the day to complete all sorts of day-to-day activities. I can take six or even ten puffs of this stuff and definitely feel it working yet my wife does not even know that I'm high, so that's a bonus. After a full joint or vape I do feel high and creative but apparently don't act it.
I figured that 10 puffs of 7% THC cannabis should get me much higher than just one or two puffs 23% THC cannabis, but I appear to be wrong. The CBD must somehow counteract of THC's psychoactive ingredients without taking too much away from the uplifting effects of the high. I do feel high on it and experience no paranoia whatsoever. Plus I think more about silly and goofy thoughts, laugh more, colors are brighter, people are more attractive, music has new depth, I really get the munchies, and so on.
Compared to my strong THC sativa, this high CBD indica hybrid makes me feel more energetic, spritely, and surprisingly clear-headed. I feel focused enough to carry on normal conversations and I really like the oscillating feeling in my hands and feet. It works. Plus I can get all my daily activities completed without looking or acting stoned.
I was therefore very shocked to find that cooking and eating a pretty similar quantity of this 8.5% CBD cannabis is a very different experience. It really changed my opinion on the potency of this strain and I now have greater respect for the medicinal side of this cannabis strain.
I made a batch of 48 brownies using 32g of this cannabis, so each brownie is dosed with 0.71g of this high CBD, low THC cannabis. The first full brownie I tried was delicious and to be honest I expected a pretty mild high. But WOW it was strong! I had smoked a similar quantity days earlier it was indeed pretty mild. But when eaten... oh my God, oh my goodness! It was a very strong high, unexpectedly so, and I have not felt that high in years. I smoke several times a week some fine herb including strong ones like Hawaiian Snow (Lao sativa x Hawaiian sativa) or Himalayan Gold (mostly indica from northern India) and in contrast to those I was surprised to experience this high. My hands and feet felt like they were vibrating or oscillating or like they were electrified, it felt amazing. However with this dose I was feeling quite baked and my wife said I was very obviously looking and acting high, so the brownie was a little too strong for performing daily activities.
Second and subsequent times I eat only half a brownie, a dose of just 0.35g of 8.5% CBD and 7% THC. Even at half a brownie I absolutely feel strong effects. I get buzzing vibrations in my hands and feet, and in fact across my body, but my mind stays clear and I feel stoned for hours but don't act it, apparently. Wow. And no paranoia whatsoever. It was excellent. Eating it definitely changes the effect and feels more like the body experience I was looking for from these beans.
I have chronic pain in my hands and arms due to repetitive injury and this cannabis really helps, and in fact I have good experiences with it whether it is vaporized, smoked or eaten.
I am confused why smoking it provides a mild high, yet cooking and eating a similar quantity gives me quite a strong high. It has significant physiological effects especially when cooked & eaten, like the tingling and buzzing in my hands which helps relieve pain. Any ideas? My friends and I have confirmed that the batch of brownies is consistent strength, and I'm sure I mixed them very thoroughly before cooking them.
