Wooden planter barrels

Spendy, unless you can find them for a good price, but EXCELLENT for almost any plant that won't outgrow them.

WELL I PICKED UP A COUPLE MORE BARRELS today (SRY CAPS.). they hold 30 gallons of water.. I wonder if i should drill some 1/4 inch holes on the bottons and put some gravel on the bottom? this is just preperation for next season... but wow!!
I cant imagine what size they will get,,, my 5 gallon pots this year are silly now that im bringing home the big boys..LOL

yes, drill holes.:blsmoke: big holes. :peace:

I agree, drill some holes, and if you're worried about the soil being washed out, maybe something like a piece of window screen on the bottom would help. I always put a rock or a piece of broken pot in front of or over the holes, not so it totally blocks, but so that it keeps MOST of the soil in.

What about drilling big holes, lots of them in the bottom of the barrel, then setting it over the top of a 2-3 ft hole in the ground filled with soil and 3-4 fish.

Thanks FDD, I feel all gitty when you help a brother out..LOL
Is the fish on the bottom overkill? or should i just throw a couple in the bottom of the barrel? or?

A meat grinder..? Or, how about the Blend-O-Matic. Anyone else remember that skit on SNL? They could only show it once because they tossed in live roaches and the assholes from PETA or some such got their panties all in wad. Over fucking ROACHES.
Yeah, sorry, I draw the line at things like roaches, skeeters and flies.

seamaiden i have a blender,, i was refering to the worm farm..

but i checked the grow faq about worming and it seems alot easier to just buy some worm castings.

also, does anyone think i should line the inside of the barrels with plastic? cutting holes of course.:joint:

Search Ohsogreen's posts, I believe he put up a guideline on how to just get the worms directly into the pots. Or, maybe it was South Texas who put that up. Hm..

So, too young to remember that old SNL skit, huh? It was pretty gross. I think it was also called the Bass-O-Matic. Ok, I guess I gotta do a YouTube search.
