Hey RIU. I'm sick of hearing people telling others that they are losing something by quick drying there buds or specifically that using a microwave is wrong and possibly fatal to your trichomes. I am here to say otherwise.

Some of us grow to supplement our medicine instead of having to pay for it all the time. Sometimes we are stuck waiting for something to finish and not wanting to pay out of pocket for something. I feel your pain.

I have been using the microwave to quick dry my buds for over a year now and have some tips for you guys trying to get an early sample.

- Have a few GLASS or CERAMIC plates ready and some tissue or paper towels several ply thick to cover your buds. You'll be transferring your buds form one plate to another and if your plate starts to feel too hot this gives you the option to quickly swap out plates.

- Place buds on plate after severing from and removing the majority of stems

- Cover with TP or PT.

- Set cook time to 2-3 minutes

- Each time you place the plate of buds into the microwave cover with the pt or tp

- You'll only be cooking for 4-8 seconds at a time.

- After each 4-8 second interval remove buds from microwave and place on another plate

- Wipe off water that appears on the micro waved plate (under the buds)

- Place buds back on the now dry plate and repeat the process.

Do this again and again until you see little to no water under the buds at the end of an interval.

For me this usually takes about 10-15 minutes for a few grams of DRY bud.

This method strips most of the unique flavor of the bud away but leaves potency.

Using less time per interval is going to save you some flavor but take a few minutes longer to finish.

Using more time (8 seconds max I advise) is faster but a lot of flavor is stripped.

DO NOT cook longer than 10 seconds at a time or you WILL burst your trichome heads and lose potency and always remember to cover your buds.

Don't do ten second cooks. Many microwaves vary so it is better to use less cook time such as 4-8 seconds.

What you are doing is essentially using the microwaves to pull water out of the center of the bud.

Good Luck folks. :bigjoint: :peace:

Cool, thanks for sharing! I don't own one myself, but I have heard others say that a vaporizer is a good tool for trying out freshly trimmed bud

Rice is better. This is good if you are in a hurry though. You can quick dry a lot of bud into nice, moist, slow and even burning smoke by spending a few dollars on a few pounds of rice. Put the rice into a large tupperware container. Cut the nugs from their stems and bury in the rice. Then place the container in a warm area maybe 80-90 degrees tops and wait overnight or about 12 hours. The warmer temperature help draw out the moisture faster; it's not necessary but it helps. Delicious. I have some right now of some Critical ssh and it is just delicious. Take it easy. :blsmoke::weed::blsmoke:

I tend to just let mine dry naturally. I've done the microwave dry thing in a pinch. I've found the oven works best for a quick test smoke. Just turn it on and set it to around 100 - 125. Toss it in there. Come back in 5 minutes. Check it. If not dry then 5 more minutes will for sure work on a decent sized popcorn nugget. Also leave the door half open. I've done it on strains I haven't tried. I normally don't smoke/grow sativa doms but sampled critical/super silver haze from delicious at different tricome maturity.

Don't bury them. The rice will do a fine job of drying them if in the same container without contact. Also you can get better results if you dry the rice by heating in oven on a low temp, then sealing in the jar to cool before adding the weed. I wouldn't do this to weed myself, but I use this approach to dry other things, like wet electronics.

Really? Ha! I'm a straight A college student so you can say what you want but it just won't be logical given the actual data and not just the opinion of some forum junkies.
I like to inform the misinformed so I'll leave you with this:
Most people are walking around with bad information; this is fact. As such, you will often find a bunch of idiots grouping together over a common idea more then you will find a bunch of intelligent people who agree on something grouping together. Particularly in online forums full of people who literally have nothing else going on in their lives but to rack up post counts and feed their egos and addictions. You can't beat logic or you just sound like a fool and if you can't understand the science behind something then you shouldn't speak less you make yourself look like a bigger fool. Anyways, needledick and friends, (I know, I resorted to callous name calling but it was so clever how could I resist?) you guys have a great day. Btw, addicts suffer from various pathology including, "an inability to interact in a meaningful way with their peers and engaging in impulsive behavior." Such is the case when a person replies to a forum post with an insult instead of maintaining a mature dialogue. Then again, why am I wasting my time with people who simply, failed to develop intellectually. Perhaps, I am the bigger fool. Wait, no. It's definitely you guys. Pax :grin:

Intelligence and knowledge?
Yep, i know trics are fragile and I know burying them in rice is more rough on them than it needs to be. I can combine this knowledge with my experience using rice to dry out my cell phone to design a better solution to drying weed with rice, and I don't even have to test it to be 100% certain it's a better idea then burying the weed in rice. If you can't see that I would call you an ignorant fool with a mental handicap.

I would rather be a smart ass (pun intended) than have to ride the short buss.

Why would you tell someone to try something that you would never attempt yourself? That's irresponsible. But, I see you are still upset about making yourself look like a complete idiot the other day, so I understand the hostility.

Let me get this straight. You're sick of hearing people telling others that they're losing something by drying in a microwave. . But in the same post you state that using the microwave method strips most of the unique flavor away... can you explain to me how that's not a contradiction?
