OPINIONS NEEDED: HPS grow light layout....

Hello friends. In my room now I use a DWC grow system with one 1000watt HPS light above each plant (12). The dimensions of hoods for these lamps are 23x17x8 (LxWxH). My question is should I downsize on the number of lights and replace them with much larger hoods? For example go from 12 light to 8 using larger hoods and still keeping the same area lit.

Holly shit! That's a lot of fucking light! Lol. Wow. Ok I'm back. I would have only used 6 of those, that doesn't make me right however. How big is your room?

Its about 25' x 13'. Yea I'm sure 6 lights would work pretty well but I'm trying to reach full potential. But like I said, I'm curious about the sizes of the hoods and amount of light they provide. A smaller hood above each plant would provide a concentrated amount of lumens to each plant. I wonder if a larger XXL hood, that covers more surface area, would be as effective

I use XXL hood to very nice hood. They are heaver than most, but very good light spread and dont seem to be any hot spots at lease none that i found. They say it covers a 6x6 but i stay 5X5 to. It takes care of 12 3to4 foot plants.

You need to look at the overhead cost you spent to produce a harvest. If you ard using as many lights as you say thats 35.00 per light x 12 = 420.00 each month X that by 3 thats a total of 1,260.00 per harvest on elect. and only 12 plants?

if you have high ceilings you could (and imo should) use gavita 1000w de hps lights.

if you have them over 30" from the canopy you can illuminate a 6x6 with ease.

I'm thinking of purchasing a Gavita Pro 600/750e for a small closet grow of 2-3 plants... Ceiling about 8 ft high... Any thoughts on whether of not this may be TOO MUCH for a small grow??

having never actually used one i can't give any real advice sorry.

i have seen plenty of grow rooms where the gavitas are kicking ass and they are all in warehouses and really big set ups. i honestly don't think it would be ideal in a confined space and the actual light fixture is quite bulky so you may struggle, i'm sure if you want it enough you can make it work.

There's a video on youtube that compares the XXL hoods vs. smaller more focused fixtures and after watching it I came away with you really need a 1000 w bulb in those big hoods as anything less will dilute the intensity too much. I run 600w's and like the more focused fixtures.
