There is "metals" needed for plants, however the metal doesn't have to be a real metal. It can derive a different derivatives that are not actually the metal. That's the point. Cheese and rice.
Experimenting is how we achieve new ideas and go new directions that are better. People thought Thomas Edison was nuts, but now we have electricity, research and development can change the entire outlook on something. Of course the plant needs what it needs, like the human body, but we are able to take in the nutrients in different ways, and I think there is a way to do so horticulturally. Not a newbie, actually getting tired of perfect harvest time after time so it's time to come up with some new ideas and strategies that are not in the text books. Thinking outside the box. That sort of thing.
