giving defoliation during flower a try

Did it affect yield? I'm not sure as I have nothing to compare it to. Did it make the plant one of the terpiest and crystallized plants I've grown? Who knows. It all could be coincidence. I'm thinking there's over a couple oz's on it none the less. So it wasn't a complete failure. :p

Right on fease, I'm OK with the results I suppose, the Buds are definitely good looking and not too small at least. I really would advice against people using defoliation to increase yields and bud size, especially in a low plant number garden, it just will not work at all. The only time defoliation worked for me to increase bud size (and I don't want anyone to get confused when I say increase bud size because it did not make them bigger than they would be in a properly lighted room with correct plant spacing, they only got regular size and we're able to fill in properly while being in a tightly packed sog) was a sog grow. This plant was grown at the farthest point in the room from the light along with 10 other plants. It's not a good example for plucking leaves, but I don't feel it caused too much of a problem and I feel that the way the plant grew and it's excess foliage, it needed, imo, to be done. BUT, if I left the plant alone and did not prune it, it may have had similar results, but I think it would have been leafier and larfier

Hence the voodoo doll, it's voodoo, not science.

Hey, if you can't grow as good as your buddy, just look for any TRICKS to try and improve your grow,Totally understandable.
Wonder if @IgrowUgrow will have some time today to help us out with his awesome intelligence???
 
That's the thing, I'll have to wait and see what the final yield is, the Buds are pretty dense for being small. If there's 2.5-3oz on there, I don't think the yield suffered much being that it was in a room with 11 other plants. I'll know in a week or so and will have the final tally.

looks nice ^^, i think you might see better results trying it on long flowering sativas,
they seem to handle this kind of torture much better than indicas
or indica dominated hybrids

Thanks skunkd0c, nice sativas! I thought this defoliated plant was going to flower for much longer than it did, it didn't start flowering until after week 5ish, then it started packing on buds fairly quickly. It's a mostly sativa plant (tangi x chocolope), it was definitley a strange plant to grow, it was a mutant :p I wish I had time for 16wk sativas but 11 weeks is my limit at the moment, someday I'll be able to get into the land race fun when I have more space 8-)

How's the bud, i.e. the product? I always enjoyed smoking tangerine (at barney's) but they don't sell a stable line. I also like chocolope (although chocolate fondue is better) but has similar issues. I think I'm going to try the Tangie someday, see if it can create the tasty tangerine bud.

Speaking of DNA genetics in a defoliation thread, a dutch grower whose journal I occasionally check out, also mod of the main dutch grow forum, got the advice from DNA genetics to defoliate, or particular "remove some leaves" from the LA Woman (70% indica).

Which in turn reminds me of Tangie again... in their description: "For best tasting results grow the Tangie in soil." Bullshit, and I look forward to giving them some bud again.

yeh i see quite thin leaves on it, but the bud structure does not look very sativa like, looks kind of kush/skunk hybrid
i like the big calyx though :)

as you can see below i do not remove leaves from indicas it fucks them up more often than not in my experience
these were leafy as hell, i prefer growing sativas

I haven't tried this tangilope yet but will definitly let you know. So far it really smells disgusting, like ramen noodles, body odor and oranges. It kind of burns the nose lol. (Too many phenos of this tangilope, not really any uniformity in the beans from what I've seen from others growing it, it seems like they all come out different.) I liked the tangerine dream though, that was a nice plant. Agent orange is a really potent orange/ tangerine taste/smelling plant, I got the whisky sour pheno last I grew it though. It started out smelling as potent oranges, then later after cure it was more of a liquor smelling sour orange smell. That chocolate fondue sounds great! I was looking into Sweet sweets - cream caramel. Such BS about a better taste in soil though, like wtf lol. I STILL can not tell the difference and I grew strictly organic for years. I gradually made the switch to hydro and didn't notice anything different in taste or smell really either. So I dunno what that jive is about :p

I thought the same, looked skunky too me. It doesn't look like any of the other tangilopes I've seen which is so weird. I'm not looking forward to the thickness and dense foliage of the indicas, I haven't grown them in a while so it's going to be a challenge. I used to hate growing sativas because they were hard to manage until I learned about canopy control and plant training, it made all the difference in the garden with growing the sats. i used to think that super cropping was a bad idea but there's not many branches that I don't super crop now a days :p

Not really surprised there, Chocolope is unstable crossed with a tangie cut. If you cross tangilope with tangilope you may find some really nice phenos.

It's as least as great as it sounds. Only grown 3 of them, but damn... I showed them, well, an employee anyway, don't know who exactly, a dried chocolate fondue nugget and he was genuinely impressed. Which I could have captured the look on his face.

That looks like a small bud perhaps but the calyxes were huge, each foxtail-like cluster of calyxes became nugget by itself. Different bud but shows it nicely:

(as you can tell from the leaves that was one of my higher ppm runs... especially N)

Anyway.... when I showed off that bud at DNA genetics I also told them I didn't taste or smell the chocolate in any of the three plants - and that I grow on hydro... added I didn't miss the chocolate are anything, it's an excellent combi that gives the best of sweet haze and cheesy skunk in one. Couple of weeks later, when the buds were dried better, let's say cured, I crumbled up some buds and was really surprised to smell an actual chocolate taste on my fingers...
