Durban Poison - Anyone?

High all :joint: I am going to pop my Durban Magic seeds from Seeds Of Africa this summer and run them outdoors. I've had a hard time getting any personal info on DP, in general... Does ANYONE have any personal experience growing /smoking Durban Poison? Idk why, but I can't seem to get any personal responses about this strain. I'm sure there are some people out there who grow/smoke this strain. I have heard the true African DP is some FIRE... Anyone?

I have some of the landrace Durban from SOA (seeds of africa) along with Cali Orange (Homegrown Fantaseeds). Will run the Durban outside, and make the Cali -O into an indoor breeding project. I want to make more seeds of both, while keeping the strains pure (for now). RM3 - question : Do the pollinated buds have to "burst" with seeds before they are ready? I mean, I see the seeds forming on my female right now (current project), but how can I tell (for sure) they are ready? Should I look for about 80% Orange pistils? I once hit a female with pollen, waited 3-4 wks. and harvested Picture Perfect brown seeds with tiger stripes. Not one of them germinated, no matter what method I used. Not sure why that happened but I had to just throw them all out. Any advice?

If you are growing for seed you want to harvest later than when growing for smoke. If you tried to germinate right after harvesting, you tried to germinate too soon. Seeds need to mature a bit after harvest. It helps to put them someplace cold for a couple weeks also. You are trying to trick the seed into thinking it has fallen to the soil and spent the winter in the ground. There is actually some sort of biological mechanism in the seed that prevents it from germinating too soon, otherwise it would try to germ in early winter only to be taken out by the cold. Someone with a stronger botany background can probably explain it more scientifically than me.

Love the Durban flavor and high, one of my favorites.

Thanks fellas ! ~ Interesting reply Bug-eye. It makes sense though. I will put my fresh seed in a medicine bottle and put them in the veggie crisper (bottom drawer) of my fridge and try to "fool mother nature" this way. How long would I need to keep them in there before testing germination rates? The "whole winter"? or will a month be enough?

Hey dluck, yeah - I've heard it's too intense for some. I got the seeds because so many people rave about the smell/taste/high. We need some "rocket-fuel" to get our asses up and going sometimes, so maybe the Durban will be IT... :joint:
PS- Our current veg box has : Pure Hindu Kush and CSSH from delicious seeds. Pure indica, and Almost pure Sativa. Variety is the spice of life... :p

I can't tell you for sure but I think a month will probably help a lot. There are some good threads on this topic if you can fish them out.

Seeds most generally take 4 to 6 weeks, sometimes longer. I harvest by when the seeds are mature, the dark striped thing. but then you let the buds dry, clean out the seeds and let the seeds dry a bit, I usually go 2 weeks just sittin out in a bowl or a plate. then I bag em and put em in the fridge.

I have no idea why NONE of your seeds popped?

Im glad I found this thread. My wife is from south africa and she loves sativas. So ive been wanting to know were to get the best true landrace Durban
Also the
info on the seed harvesting was very informative . I waited at Least two months before i planted the seeds i harvest. Ive had seeds that havent germinated no matter what i do to them. I having organizer for screws and I'm trying to fill up every one of the different compartments would be different strains. But there's a lot of compartments so it's going to take a long time...im way behind1421720143398.jpg

I've grown dutch passions durban poison. Seems like a very stable strain, grown 3 times from seeds, all seeds from different orders, 3 different years, all plants had very similar and consistent: growth, structure, finishing times, quality and yield. It had the licorice/anise smell and taste. Super head high, no couch lock at all, actually motivates me to get up and do something, smoke all day with no burn out. Probably my favorite smoke so far.

I like being able to burn all day without burning out too. The closest thing that i can find that does that is the sour diesal. I want to plant some durban. So dutch passion is the general conscences of consistent qaulity of this strain..no?

Durban is my favorite sativa. Shorter flowering times for a sativa make it ideal for crossing.

Here is a pic of my Gorilla Glue 4 x Durban Poison(male). The male was a gift from a long-time grower/breeder in Spain.

MadLab also makes a good point, Durban is a 8-9wk sativa strain. I've had indicas that take longer to finish flowering...I can't say whether there's a better breeder for durban, I've only used Dutch Passion. some people claim Dutch Passion is not even a true durban but a durbanXskunk cross..IDK.
